The India Post is a mail system administered by the government. It is the most dispersed system. Formerly, it was known as the Post Office. In addition, the India Post also provides recruitment.

The India Post also acts as a conducting body for the GDS recruitment. GDS also stands for Gramin Dak Sevak. The India Post GDS Cycle 3 is to select competent candidates for the roles. There are three roles under the India Post GDS(Gramin Dak Sevak) cycle 3. Particularly, they are the posts of Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Post Master, and Gramin Dak Sevak. In addition, it also publishes GDS vacancies of postal Circles all across India.

However, the India Post does not conduct exams for the India Post GDS ( Gramin Dak Sevak) cycle 3. That is to say, the selection criterion is established based on the marks obtained by the candidate in class 10. Instead of exams, the India Post publishes a merit list.

India Post GDS Job Profile

  • Firstly, the branch postmaster (BPM) is one of the posts under the India Post GDS. Additionally, the Branch Post Master (BPM) is also responsible for the postal works at the Gram Panchayat. Also, he is also accountable for encouraging government programs like Samrudhi Yojana, Sukanya, Money Depositing, etc. In addition, he takes care of cash orders, book and speed posts.
  • Secondly, the Assistant Post Master Branch (APMB) supports the BPM for the branch work. He is also responsible for the procurement of stamps, stationery, and mail delivery. He also assists in marketing and arranging melas.
  • Lastly, Gram Dak Sevak is one of the posts under GDS. The functions of a Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) are assisting the postmaster/ sub-postmaster. Further, he is responsible for the sale of stamps and stationery, and mail transfers. GSD is also involved in Railway Mail Services (RMS) like opening and closing of bags, and bag transport.

Indian Post GDS Recruitment Exam Notification & News

Accordingly, the India Post issues a notification PDF for every postal circle on its website. Its purpose is to recruit candidates for Branch Postmaster(BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABP), and Dak Sevak posts.

Hence, the India Post GDS Notification includes information like the total number of posts and the requirements for the test. Even more, it contains information on the reservation procedure, important dates, syllabus, and provisional allotment.

India Post GDS Recruitment Exam Date

There will be no exam for the India Post GDS cycle 3. But, applicants will be selected based on the list of merits drawn up by the conducting body. As a result, the candidates will be selected based on class 10 marks. Above all, it is essential to clear all the subjects per the relevant authorized board rules.

However, the India Post issues exams and exam dates for the India Post GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak). The exam then will be notified.

Also, the India Post conducts the India Post GDS exam for 120 minutes. Further, the test is online written. Thus, the India Post will notify the exam date.

India Post GDS Recruitment Exam Application Fee

The cost for the India Post GDS cycle 3 online application is as per the category. Likewise, payment is available in an online method. Basically, candidates can use Net Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card to pay. Once it has taken place, they will get a confirmation of the deduction in the bank account. However, if no confirmation is received, candidates must wait up to 72 hours for the settlement of the money. Also, the application will only get processed further after the fee payment.

But once paid, there will be no refunds of fees.

Besides this, payment is also available offline. So, candidates can make offline payments to any head post office in their region.

The fee applicable for the application is Rs 100/- only. This fee applies only to the UR/OBC/EWS candidates and transmen. However, SC/ST/Women/ Transwoman/PWD do not have to pay.

India Post GDS Recruitment Exam Application Process

The India Post has issued the India Post GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak) PDF to recruit fresher or various posts. Also, it has notified vacancies for postal circles. But, the India Post GDS or Gramin Dak Sevak has various vacancy posts under it. Altogether, there are three posts under it. They include the posts of Branch Post Master or BPM, Assistant Branch Post Master or ABPM, and Gramin Dak Sevak or GDS. Therefore, interested candidates may apply for these posts on the India Post website.

However, the interested candidates must follow the application process to register for the India Post Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) 2021.

Also, the India Post GDS( Gramin Dak Sevak) has an application procedure. However, the online application consists of various stages. Thus, the step-by-step process that candidates must follow are

The step-by-step process for the India Post Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) application is

Step 1: Firstly,  candidates must visit the official website of the India Post  or click Home

Step 2: Secondly, go to the Registration link and click the signup option.

Step 3: Thirdly, candidates must provide and specify the necessary data, such as name, phone number, sex, date of birth, class, etc.

Step 4: Fourthly, applicants will receive an OTP or One-time password in your registered phone number. Hence, this is to verify the number in which you have registered. There will also be a single registration number.

Step 5: Next, candidates are required to pay the application cost or fee. They can either pay online or offline. They can use Net banking, credit card, or debit cards for online payments. However, for offline payments, candidates must go to the main office to pay the fees.

Step 6: Furthermore, candidates must fill the GDS form online with the registration number and further data. Also, they must submit the educational certificate, photograph, signature, etc., in the required format. Then, click on the submit button.

Step 7: Lastly, candidates are required to print the application form for future reference.

India Post GDS Recruitment Exam Eligibility Criteria

Further, candidates applying for the Indian Post GDS post must fulfill the criteria.

GDS Eligibility Criteria I

  •  Age Limit

It is one of the criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be selected. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and not more than 40 years of age ( As of 20.07.2021). In addition, the Indian Post has relaxed the upper age limit by 3 years for OBCs and 5 for SC/ST. It has also given age relaxation to Persons with Disabilities (PWD) up to 10 years. However, there is no age relaxation for economically weaker sections (EWS).

  •  Qualification

Additionally, a candidate must possess the essential academic qualification for the India Post GDS. The essential qualification is SSC or 10th class from a recognized Board/University. He is also required to obtain a passing mark in math. He needs to have a certificate from any board of education recognized by the Government of India. Above all, it is essential to clear all subjects per the authorized board.

GDS Eligibility Criteria II

  •  Language Proficiency

Proficiency in English and the local language of the state or territory is especially desirable. However, reading, writing, and speaking fluency in the local language are required. The local language should have been either a mandatory or optional course up to the 10th grade.

  • Computer Literacy

Candidates must have sufficient or thorough practical knowledge and understanding of computer systems. Therefore, they must enroll in an elementary computer training course of 60 days. They can then enroll in any computer training Institute run by the Central Government/State Government and Private Institutions Organizations. On the other hand, applicants with computer topics in matriculation are relaxed.

GDS Eligibility Criteria III

  • Cycling expertise

Further, cycling is a required criterion. It is a must for every GDS position because they are responsible for outdoor mail delivery. For instance, knowledge of riding a scooter or motorcycle is also cycling expertise. Besides that, the candidate must also submit a cycling statement.

  •  Sufficient means of livelihood

Since GDS candidates are not fully employed but only for 4 or 5 hours, they need to have other sources of income. Although, it is not a prerequisite.

Nevertheless, an applicant selected within 30 days has to comply with this requirement. Hence, he will have to provide an undertaking along with the application.  In the same way, he must again submit it when he joins.

India Post GDS Vacancies

Accordingly, India Post has released the India Post GDS 2021 Notification for Gramin Dak Sevak, Branch Postmaster, and Assistant Branch Postmaster for postal circles at indiapost.gov.in. And, it has also announced vacancies of GDS for each postal circle in detail. As a result, the total number of vacancies is 20.290

To begin with, in 2021, India Post has announced a total of 2357 vacancies of GDS posts in the West Bengal circle. On the other hand, it has released at least 4264 openings for the Uttar Pradesh circle.

India Post GDS Salary

Indian post-GDS selected candidates will receive TRCA as wages. TRCA is also known as the Time-Related Continuity Allowance. Basically, candidates are not employed full-time. But, only employed part-time. Likewise, they only serve for 4 hours and 5 hours of duty. But they are paid.

GDS TRCA

TRCA is the salary received by DGS selected candidates. However, they would only receive the minimum wage. Also rather known as Minimum TRCA. Although, there are two slabs of minimum TRCA.

Also, TRCA has two slabs or levels. First is the minimum TRCA for 4 hours of duty. Accordingly, a candidate will serve for 4 hours and get a minimum salary. On the other hand, level 2 or slab 2 is the minimum TRCA for 5  hours of duty. On the other hand, a candidate serving 5 hours will get the minimum TRCA under this slab.

GDS Minimum TRCA

At first, recruited candidates are under the 4-hour category of TRCA. Eventually, they are under the TRCA 5 -hour category.

Consequently, a Post Master Branch (BPM) will get a TRCA of Rs 12,000 for 4 hours. Subsequently, he would receive Rs 14,500 for 5 hours.

Likewise, an Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevab would receive Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,000.
Further, BPM may receive a maximum wage of Rs 29,380 for 4 hours and Rs 35,480 for 5. ABPM & Dak Sevak might also get the highest salary of Rs 24,470 and Rs 29,480.

In addition, they would also receive allowances and increments as per the government rules.

India Post GDS Incentives and Allowances

The India Post has issued openings for the India Post GDS Recruitment 2021.  Altogether, there are three categories under the India Post GDS. The posts include Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts. Therefore, interested candidates can apply for the India Post GDS.

The candidates selected for these posts are not employed full-time. But, they are employed part-time only. Basically, these candidates would only serve or work for some hours of duty. At first, candidates are to work for 4 hours of duty. Subsequently, they will contribute to 5 hours of duty. Therefore, the Gramin Dak Sevaks receive wages based on their working hours.

The India Post offers salaries to the selected candidates of the India Post GDS in the form of TRCA. TRCA also stands for Time-Related Continuity Allowance.

GDS TRCA

Also, the India Post Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) do not receive wages regularly or annually.  But, according to the Time-Related Continuity Allowances (TCAs). That is to say, the salary is calculated based on the hours they serve. Therefore, the TRCA or Time-Related Continuity Allowance is the minimum salary that the selected candidates receive. Basically, candidates are not employed full-time. But, they are only employed part-time. Likewise, they only serve for 4 hours and 5 hours of duty. Therefore, they would only get the minimum salary or minimum Time-related continuity allowance (TRCA).

The Time Related Continuity Allowance or TRCA has two slabs or levels. Firstly, it is the Minimum Time-related continuity allowance or Minimum TRCA for 4 hours of duty. Category 1 is the Minimum TRCA for 4 hours of duty. At first, selected candidates can work under category 1. They are to work for 4 hours of duty. Then, they receive a minimum salary or minimum TRCA. Category 2 is the minimum TRCA for 5 hours of duty. Subsequently, they will work under category 2 for 5 hours of duty and receive a minimum salary.

GDS Perks and Benefits

In addition, candidates also receive benefits like incentives, perks, and allowances under the India Post GDS. These incentives and allowances include the following.

GDS Benefits

  • Children Education Allowance

In addition, the India Post also offers other benefits to candidates of the India Post GDS. In addition, they can also claim education allowance for the children. Also, they are eligible for a maximum of Rs 6000 per year. They can claim the child support benefit for their two eldest surviving children.

  • Stationery charges of Rs 25 per month

Additionally, the India Post GDS candidates can also avail of stationery charges of Rs 25/- per month.

  • CMA of Rs 180

The India Post GDS candidates are expected to know how to ride the bicycle. It is required for performing duties like mail transfer and delivery Therefore, one of the benefits that India Post GDS candidates can avail themselves of is the Cycle Maintenance Allowance or CMA. They can avail up to Rs 180.

GDS Benefits II

  • Branch Postmaster office rent of Rs 500 for standard office and  Rs 200 for non-standard office

Additionally, India Post GDS candidates can also avail themselves of benefits such as office rent allowances. A Branch Postmaster would avail up to Rs 500 for standard office. Also, they can benefit up to Rs 200 from a non-standard office.

  • Voluntary Retirement option offered after at least a minimum of 10 years of service

In addition, India Post GDS selected candidates can also avail early and voluntary retirement option for themselves. Also, the voluntary retirement system applies to anyone with a minimum service tenure of 10 years or 40.

  • Transfer Policy: One-time transfer for Males & 2-times for Females

Furthermore, India Post GDS candidates can also avail themselves of the Transfer policy. Therefore, Gramin dak Sevak (GDS) male candidates can also benefit from the transfer policy only for one time. However, females candidates can only avail of the transfer policy two times.
