Candidates applying for the Indian Post GDS post must fulfil the criteria.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and not more than 40 years of age). In addition, the Indian Post has relaxed the upper age limit by three years for OBCs and 5 for SC/ST. It has also given age relaxation to Persons with Disabilities (PWD) up to 10 years. However, economically weaker sections have no age relaxation (EWS).
A candidate must possess the essential academic qualification for the India Post GDS. The essential qualification is SSC or 10th class from a recognized Board/University. He/She is also required to obtain a passing mark in math. He/She must have a certificate from any board of education recognized by the Government of India.
Proficiency in English and the local language of the state or territory is especially desirable. However, reading, writing, and speaking fluency in the local language is required. The local language should have been either a mandatory or optional course up to the 10th grade.
Candidates must have sufficient or thorough practical knowledge and understanding of computer systems. Therefore, they must enrol in an elementary computer training course of 60 days. They can then enrol in any computer training Institute run by the Central Government/State Government and Private Institutions Organizations. On the other hand, applicants with computer topics in matriculation are relaxed.
Cycling is a required criterion. It is a must for every GDS position because they are responsible for outdoor mail delivery. For instance, knowledge of riding a scooter or motorcycle is also cycling expertise. Besides that, the candidate must also submit a cycling statement.

Indian post-GDS selected candidates will receive TRCA (Time-Related Continuity Allowance) as wages. Candidates are not employed full-time; they are employed in a part-time role. They only serve for 4 hours and 5 hours of duty and are paid for the same.
