There are three stages to the SBI PO selection procedure. The written tests are given online, and an interview round follows. Exams are structured as follows:
The candidates for this online test get one hour to complete the 100-point question paper. Three sections make up the test. The sectional cut-off in the preliminary exam has been eliminated, and candidates will now only be chosen for the next stage based on their overall score in all areas. The Bank determines the minimum score required to pass each component each year based on the test’s complexity. Below is a breakdown of the scores by section:
S.No. | Name of Tests(Objective) | No. of Questions | Maximum Marks | Duration |
1 | English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 Minutes |
2 | Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 Minutes |
3 | Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 Minutes |
Total | 100 | 100 | 1 hour |
Selection criteria for the Main Examination: A merit list for each category will be compiled based on the overall Preliminary Exam score. No sectional cut-off will exist. The top candidates on the aforementioned merit list—roughly 10 times the number of openings in each category—will be chosen to take the Main Examination.
The SBI PO Mains Exam will comprise of Objective & Descriptive Section, which is described below in detail:
S.No. | Name of Tests(Objective) | No. of Questions | Maximum Marks | Duration |
1 | Reasoning & Computer Aptitude | 40 | 50 | 60 minutes |

Descriptive SBI PO Test
The descriptive paper will test your knowledge of the English language and will last 30 minutes and have two questions (Letter Writing & Essay). Candidates who pass the first two phases of the SBI PO test are also subjected to an interview process in addition to the preliminary and main exams.
A candidate who passes the SBI PO 2023 Preliminary and Main Exams will also be invited to a GD-PI session, where they will speak with a panel of selectors about their prior experiences and answer questions about general knowledge and the banking industry.
Call Letter
Candidates who pass the written exam and qualify for the interview round will receive an SBI PO (Probationary Officer) call letter, which is also referred to as an interview letter. The call letter is an important document that enables applicants to participate in the interview round and includes crucial details regarding the interview procedure.
The call letter is often made available on the SBI official website, where applicants can access it by logging in with their registration number, roll number, date of birth, and password. The call letter includes guidelines on how to conduct yourself during the interview and information about the interview’s date, time, and location.
Applicants must bring a valid photo ID and a printed copy of their call letter to the interview location. Candidates cannot attend the interview without the call letter, which should be noted as a key document.
A candidate must complete the interview process to be selected for the SBI PO. The Bank will determine the qualifying marks for this round, and the marks assigned to these rounds are: Group Talk – 20 marks, Interview – 30 marks.
The State Bank of India will create a merit list after a candidate has completed Personal Interviews, considering both the candidate’s performance on the Mains Exam and the Interview Round. Final cut-off scores will be announced based on candidates’ scores and the number of open positions. State Bank of India shall provide the Appointment Letter for the position of Probationary Officer to those candidates who meet the cut-off range.
While SBI issues only the broad subjects, they can be further subdivided into individual topics based on the questions appearing in the exams over the past few years.
