KVPY which stands for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahah Yojana is an initiative by the Indian government to inspire students who are studying science subjects at various levels. This is a scholarship program for science students which is organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. This national program aims to identify prospective students, to motivate the students to take up science subjects as their course of study, and move on to pursue research in the field of science.

After selecting the students, the KVPY program continues to promote meritorious students by providing financial support in the form of fellowship and grooming. By this, the student can be well prepared to step into the world of scientific research. KVPY exam conducts by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, only Indian students can appear for any of three streams that are applicable for a particular student.

Objective of KVPY

The main objective of the KVPY exam is to find out the students who have the talent and potential to take up science subjects and carry forward their studies to build a career as a scientific researcher. To achieve this objective, the KVPY program provides handsome fellowship and contingency grants along with top-class grooming to the qualify students. KVPY program continues to support the students up to pre Ph.D.  level or 5 years whichever comes early to the particular student. KVPY also organizes summer camps for the students in well-known educational institutions and excellent research institutions to ensure that the students can get the best possible guidance and motivation to improve themselves to achieve new heights in their lives.

About KVPY Examination

KVPY examination conducts by IISc Bengaluru once every year. This exam conducts in online mode and aspiring students have to sit for a three-hour examination that carries 100 marks in total.  This year the online exam will contain questions only in the English language. There will be no interview round this year; the merit list will publish based on the performances in the aptitude test. The students have to go to the exam venue which will assign to them and only from there the students can appear for the KVPY exam. The students who are Indian nationals and wish to continue their studies in India can apply for this exam and further assistance.

 

KVPY Exam News

The official notification for KVPY is released already on July 12th,2021. Candidates can see a link on the website which activates for registration. Candidates can start to register themselves and follow the processes present over there.  After successfully submitting the application form and make the payment, candidates must download the application form and payment invoice for future requirements. For further information, candidates can contact the examination helpdesk numbers: 080-22932975/76, 080-23601008 & 080-22933536. The phone numbers are available between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. except for Saturday, Sunday, and national holidays. KVPY Exam Eligibility Criteria

Candidates, who aspire to continue their studies with the grooming and fellowship from the KVPY program, must fulfill the eligibility criteria which are mentioned by KVPY. Candidates need to fulfill both educational and general criteria to register themselves for the KVPY selection process. The required criteria for the KVPY selection process are given below.

  1. Nationality / Citizenship: A candidate must be a citizen of India and must have identity proof of being a citizen of India. Candidates must be interested to pursue their further studies in India. The candidates also need to continue their studies from the institutions which are recognized by the government of India.
  2. Education System: Students who are pursuing their studies under any correspondence course of any university will not be able to apply for the KVPY exam 2021. Also, the candidates who are continuing their studies or wishes to continue their studies under the distance education system will not be eligible to sit for KVPY 2021 exam.
  • Age (As on the date that is mentioned in the official notification):  KVPY exam is conducted for three separate schemes. Each of the schemes has a specific age limit. Candidates need to fulfill the age criteria to apply for the KVPY exam 2021.
  • For the SA stream, the minimum age of the candidate must be 16 years
  • The candidate should complete 17 years of age for the SX stream,
  • For the SB stream, the candidate is required to be 18 years old.

Streams of KVPY

Three separate streams in the KVPY exam is SA Stream, SX Stream, and SB Stream. The eligibility criteria are different for every stream. Details of required eligibility are given below.

SA Stream: Candidates who have passed Class X and have taken admission for Class XI can apply under this stream. Candidates must be a student of science subject to apply for this stream. If the candidate passes the aptitude test then they should produce a supportive document of their studentship in class XI. The candidate will get the fellowship only if they take up basic science subjects in their under graduation studies.

Also, in the Board examination of Class XII, the candidate needs to score a minimum of 60% marks (50% for reserved candidates that are SC, ST, and PWD) in aggregate of mathematics and basic science subjects. After getting selected for the fellowship, the candidate will get access to attend Vijyoshi, which is the national science camp. All the expenses of traveling and accommodation will be sponsored by the KVPY. This eligibility criterion is only applicable in the 2021 cycle due to the pandemic.

SX Stream: Students who are currently studying basic science in Class XII and wish to continue their studies in basic science subjects can apply under this stream of KVPY. Selected candidates will get the fellowship after they take admission in the following courses in the academic year 2022-2023. Even after getting selected for the fellowship, there are chances that the student will not receive the scholarship. To activate the fellowship, the candidate must score a minimum of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

As per need eligibility criteria, students need to score the required marks in the second year of their study.

SB Stream: Students who have passed Class XII or the second year of Cambridge International Examination Board, and have taken admission in any of the undergraduate courses that are mentioned above, can apply for this stream. After getting selected for fellowship the candidate must produce the document of their enrollment in undergraduate courses. The candidates also need to score 60% marks (50% for reserved candidates) in aggregate in the first year of under graduation. The fellowship of the candidate will stand canceled if the candidate does not achieve the required score.

KVPY also has taken some policies as Empowerment Initiative, to help underprivileged students. Some additional fellowships belong to SC and ST students who are studying the courses that are mentioned above. There are also added fellowships for students who are differently able (physically and visually). The PWD category will be operated especially to support these students.

How to apply?

Only online applications will accept for the KVPY 2021 examination. Candidates should submit the application form and complete the payment within the present time. The application form will not submit without the successful completion of payment. Payment can complete only through online transactions. A list of important documents and steps to fill up the application form is given below.

 

The process for KVPY online registration and application is divided into three steps.

Registration and Application

  1. Go to the official website of KVPY. The official website is key.iisc.net.in
  2. Click on the link “Application login”.
  3. There will be a page containing the rules and regulations applicable for the form fill-up process. The candidate must go through the details and tick the checkbox of the disclaimer.
  4. Click on the link “Login” to start the registration process.
  5. Click on the “Click here for new registration” button.
  6. Candidates need to register themselves first by filling up the required details such as Name, Class, Stream, Email ID, Contact number, etc. A provisional registration number and password will create. Candidates will receive an email in their registered email ID.
  7. Candidates need to log in by using that registration number and password.
  8. The next step is to fill up the important detail. This includes educational qualifications, General information about the candidate. Candidates must ensure they are fulfilling the required criteria.

Uploading the scan copy of required documents

  1. Photo: a recent passport size photo (measurements- 4.5cm x 3.5cm). The preferred format of the photo is JPG or JPEG. The size of the image file should within 150 KB. Candidates should not wear any accessories such as sunglasses, hats, etc. which will cover some part of their face. Candidates should not change their appearance after uploading the photo.
  2. Signature: Candidates should sign on white paper with black ink and scan it. Candidates must avoid using block letters in signatures. The scanned file size must be within 80 KB and preferably in JPG or JPEG format.
  3. Cast certificate and medical certificate if required. The certificate should be in PDF format and the size of the file should be within 300 KB.

Candidates must keep the educational qualification documents handy because the details are important to fill up the application form.

All the documents should scan and upload. There will be separate links for uploading separate documents. Candidates must check whether the document successfully uploads or not. The application form will not submit until the system successfully uploads and accept documents.

Payment for application:

  1. Before starting the transaction to make payment for the application form, candidates need to arrange all the documents and keep them nearby. Candidates also need to check the internet connectivity to ensure that the transaction process is smooth and hassle-free.
  2. Candidates can make payments only through some online payment methods. Offline payment will not accept. Candidates need to ensure that the transaction is complete; the pending transaction will not count as a successful submission of the application form.
  3. Candidates can only use debit cards to make payments: Rupay, Visa, Master, and Maestro. Other online payment methods which are eligible to make payment for this application form are Credit cards and Internet Banking.
  4. Click on the “continue to payment” button after the final submission of the application form.
  5. In the next step, candidates need to choose the payment method using which the payment will complete for the application.

Other Payment For Application in KVPY 2021:

  1. Then continue with the stages and follow the steps to make payment. Candidates must recheck all the details.
  2. After the completion of the process, candidates need to click on the “SUBMIT” button to ensure about completion of payment successfully.
  3. Candidates must careful while the transaction. Once the payment completes, candidates should not refresh the page or click on the redirect button until they are receiving any information from the server.
  4. After completing payment, candidates will receive an e-receipt of the transaction. They should keep it safe for further usage.

 

KVPY Exam Result and Fellowship

The KVPY fellowship will activate after the candidate achieves the last limit of marks in Board examinations and enroll themselves in the undergraduate courses that were present above. There are some steps to unlock the fellowship after fulfilling all the criteria.

  1. The selected students for the KVPY fellowship have to drop an e-mail on kvpy@iisc.ac.in after the students take admission to under graduation.
  2. The students will notify the KVPY officials that they have taken admission to UG courses.
  3. The KVPY officials will send the forms via e-mail.
  4. The students need to fill up the forms and submit them to the  KVPY office.
  5. After completion of the processes, the fellowship will activate for the students.

 

KVPY Fellowship Amount Structure

All the students will get monthly scholarships along with an annual contingency grant up to five years or till enrollment for Ph.D. whichever comes earlier. The amount of fellowship for every stream is the same. During under graduation (B.Sc. /B.S. / Int M.Sc. / M.S. / B.Stat / B. Math) the students will get the fellowship of Rs. 5000 per month and the contingency grant of Rs.20000 per year.  During post-graduation (M.Sc. /M.S. / Int M.Sc. / M.S. / M.Stat / M. Math) the amount of fellowship will be Rs. 7000 per month and the amount of contingency grant will be Rs. 28000 per year.

Fellowship Advantages

The passed students for the KVYP fellowship program. After that, they can enjoy several advantages in various areas of study and educational grooming. Here is a list of the benefits of the KVYP fellow student.

  • The selected students will get a special identity card. They can use this card to access the library and laboratory of national libraries and universities.
  • The SA stream students will get to participate in the Vijyoshi camp. The traveling and lodging expenses will be provided by the KVYP authority.
  • Students from the second year of under graduation and onward will get a chance to participate in a summer program in a research lab.
  • KVYP students will get preference in IIT admission counseling.
  • The candidates can apply for admission in IISc and IISER. Their KVPY ranking will give advantages to the students.
