About UPSC Steno exam

The UPSC Steno exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. And it is conducted for recruiting the section officers and stenographers (B – grade Central govt post). The exam is conducted in a written format. After many years UPSC  is releasing the UPSC Steno 2021 Exam date, Notifications, Vacancies and eligibility. for further details, you can check the official website http://upsc.govt.in

There are two stages of the UPSC Steno exam. They are:

  • Written exam which consists of three parts
  • Evaluation of Service

After qualifying for the written exam the candidate’s performance will be assessed based on their services. And once he/she is qualified, they are selected for the post of stenographers and sectional officers.

Notification of UPSC Steno/SO 2021-22 will be releasing in September 2021. The notification contains details such as the number of vacancies, eligibility criteria required, and reservation policy. Every year the UPSC releases the exam dates of the Steno/SO exam. And the exam dates for the year 2021 -2022 has been released on the official website www.upsc.gov.in

 UPSC Steno 2021 Eligibility Criteria

For every exam, certain eligibility criteria need to be qualified by the candidate.

  • Category 1- Grade of the Central Secretariat Service

    : Applicants must have 5- years of work experience. And have at least four performance appraisals at the Central Secretariat Service Personal Assistants ’Grade of Central Secretariat Stenographers Service.

  • Category 2-Grade (Integrated Grade Second and Third) of the General Cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’

    : Aspirants must have 5- years work experience of Grade 4th general cadre or Grade second of Cypher sub-cadre, branch B of IFS or all the mention criteria.

  • Category 3-Grade of the Railway Board Secretariat Service:

  • Applicants with 5- years of work experience in the assistant grade of Railways Board Secretariat Service or Grade second or Grade C of Railways Board Secretariat.
  • Category 4-Private Secretary, Central Secretariat Stenographers Service

    : Aspirants must have a maximum of 3- years of work experience in the Central Secretariat Grade Stenographer Service. To apply for this category, students should possess a bachelor’s degree.

  • Category 5-Grade first of the Stenographers Cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch B

    : Aspirants must have 5 years of continuous work practice and experience in Grade second of Steno Cadre of IFS, branch B is applicable.

  • Category 6-Grade A and B merged of the Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers Service

    : Applicants must have 3 years per day work experience in Armed Forces Headquarters Service in Grade second / Grade C

  • Category 7-Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service Grade B

    : Aspirants must have 3 years of per day and approved work experience in Grade second/Grade C of Railway Board Steno jobs

  • Category 8-Grade of the Intelligence Bureau

    – If students are selected through LDCE, the exam must not hold 5 years before the crucial date.

  • Category 9-Private Secretary, State Insurance Corporation

    – Aspirants must have 3 years of approved and per day work practice in Personal Assistant Grade in employees State Insurance Corporation.

Nationality

The candidate should be Indian national and should have Indian citizenship.

How to apply for the UPSC Steno 2021 exam?

  1. Registration

At first, candidates have to register themselves for UPSC SO/Steno 2021 exam on the official website.

For registering, candidates need to fill in basic details with a valid email id and mobile number.

  1. Login ID

After candidates registered themselves on the official website, a Login ID and password will be generated and will be sent to the registered mobile number and E-mail ID.

Now applicants will be able to go to the Application form page by logging in to the official website by using their Login ID and password.

  1. Filling the application form

Candidates have to choose the right categories of stenographers posts for which they are applying for. Now, candidates have to fill in all the asked details in the application form like Name, Email, Education qualification, Parental information, Employment information, Service preference, Test center, Category, and Address.

  1. Uploading Documents

Once the candidate has filled the application form, he/she should upload the essential documents like their mark sheets, work experience certificates, a photograph, and their signature.

Application Guidelines for UPSC Steno 2021 exam

  • Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements will have to apply online through the official website of UPSC at upsc.gov.in.
  • They will have to submit the online application before the last date as per the notification. They should apply at 11.59 pm on the last date to apply. After this date, the link for applying online will be disabled.
  • Candidates are recommended to make sure that they fill up the columns in the online application form correctly. They cannot change the entries after submission through any channel.
  • When they visit the website of UPSC, candidates will find a link called “Apply online” on the right side of the website. When they click on this link, they will find the link to various positions for which the online application gateway is open.
  • Candidates will have to click on the appropriate link for the SO/Steno position. When they click on this link, they will get to a page containing the list of instructions to fill up the online application. Here, they will have the option to print the instructions or they can click on the next option.
  • Before they click on the proceed button, candidates will be prompted to click on the declaration that ensures that they have completely read the instructions.
  • Once they click the proceed option, they will be taken to a page that asks for their registration ID and password. Once they provide these details, they can log in to the website of UPSC to fill up the online application.
  • They will have to enter the basic details and should follow the onscreen instructions to proceed with the submission of the application.
  • Candidates, planning to take the written test for this position in Hindi will have to opt for the same in the application form. Otherwise, it will be assumed that the candidate will take the test in English.
  • After they apply online, they will have to print the copy of the submitted application and should send it to the UPSC through their department head or the head of the UPSC and they should do this within 15 days from the last date to apply online.

 

UPSC Steno 2021 Exam Admit card

Aspiring candidates who are applying for UPSC Steno/SO post can download their admit card from the official website. It will be released in the form of an e-ticket. Following are the steps to download the Admit Card for the exam:

  • Navigate to the Official website of UPSC i.e. upsc.gov.in.
  • On the home page, click on the ‘admit card’ tab that is given on the right side.
  • After clicking access the link for downloading the admit card.
  • Enter the registered email id.
  • Admit card will be displayed on the screen.

Important points

  • On the objective type paper, there will be four options provided for each question.
  • For every incorrect answer given to the aspirants, there will be a deduction of 0.33 marks as a penalty for that question.
  • Aspirants get the option to write a subjective paper either in Hindi or English.
  • All three test booklets will contain questions provided in Hindi and English.
  • There will also be a shorthand test in English / Hindi for applicants.
  • This test will be a test of the speed of 100 words per minute for 10 minutes and then the participants will get 40 and 55 minutes respectively in English and Hindi writing.
  • There will be a maximum deduction of 5% for illegible handwriting marks.

 

Salary

The salary or pay scale of the UPSC Steno/SO is highly attractive and is based on the Govt rules.

 

Result

After completing the process of the recruitment exam, UPSC will release the result of the written examination. It will be released online on its official website.  The final result will be released once the evaluation round is complete. The applicants will also get a merit list released by UPSC that will have the name and rank of the candidates based on their performance in the exam. As per the process, UPSC will also release a category-wise list of the selected candidates.

 

Cut off marks

The qualifying task for each section/ paper of UPSC SO/Steno will be decided by the UPSC and accordingly, the commission will release the merit list of qualified aspirants. The commission will release the category-wise merit list based on the number of available posts for each category.
