The UPSC Steno exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. And it is conducted for recruiting the section officers and stenographers (B – grade Central govt post). The exam is conducted in a written format. There are two stages of the UPSC Steno exam. They are:
After qualifying for the written exam the candidate’s performance will be assessed based on their services. And once he/she is qualified, they are selected for the post of stenographers and sectional officers.

Notification of UPSC Steno/SO 2021-22 will be releasing in September 2021. The notification contains details such as the number of vacancies, eligibility criteria required, and reservation policy. It also has important dates, filling the application form, exam pattern, provisional allotment, calculation of scores for different stages, etc.

The application fee for Steno/SO exam is Rs 100/-. And the fee payment is done online.

For every exam, certain eligibility criteria need to be qualified by the candidate.
Applicants must have 5- years of work experience. And have at least four performance appraisals at the Central Secretariat Service Personal Assistants ’Grade of Central Secretariat Stenographers Service.
Aspirants must have 5- years work experience of Grade 4th general cadre or Grade second of Cypher sub-cadre, branch B of IFS or all the mention criteria.
Applicants with 5- years of work experience in the assistant grade of Railways Board Secretariat Service or Grade second or Grade C of Railways Board Secretariat.
Aspirants must have a maximum of 3- years of work experience in the Central Secretariat Grade Stenographer Service. To apply for this category, students should possess a bachelor’s degree.
Aspirants must have 5 years of continuous work practice and experience in Grade second of Steno Cadre of IFS, branch B is applicable.
Applicants must have 3 years per day work experience in Armed Forces Headquarters Service in Grade second / Grade C
Aspirants must have 3 years of per day and approved work experience in Grade second/Grade C of Railway Board Steno jobs
If students are selected through LDCE, the exam must not hold 5 years before the crucial date.
Aspirants must have 3 years of approved and per day work practice in Personal Assistant Grade in employees State Insurance Corporation.
The candidate should be Indian national and should have Indian citizenship.
No age limit
According to the union public service commission, there are many vacancies to be filled. However, the estimate of the same is yet to be released.
At first, candidates have to register themselves for UPSC SO/Steno 2021 exam on the official website.
For registering, candidates need to fill in basic details with a valid email id and mobile number.
After candidates registered themselves on the official website, a Login ID and password will be generated and will be sent to the registered mobile number and E-mail ID.
Now applicants will be able to go to the Application form page by logging in to the official website by using their Login ID and password.
Candidates have to choose the right categories of stenographers posts for which they are applying for. Now, candidates have to fill in all the asked details in the application form like Name, Email, Education qualification, Parental information, Employment information, Service preference, Test center, Category, and Address.
Once the candidate has filled the application form, he/she should upload the essential documents like their mark sheets, work experience certificates, a photograph, and their signature.

Know More – UPSC Steno Exam Pattern and Syllabus
The salary or pay scale of the UPSC Steno/SO is highly attractive and is based on the Govt rules.
After completing the process of the recruitment exam, UPSC will release the result of the written examination. It will be released online on its official website. The final result will be released once the evaluation round is complete. The applicants will also get a merit list released by UPSC that will have the name and rank of the candidates based on their performance in the exam. As per the process, UPSC will also release a category-wise list of the selected candidates.
The qualifying task for each section/ paper of UPSC SO/Steno will be decided by the UPSC and accordingly, the commission will release the merit list of qualified aspirants. The commission will release the category-wise merit list based on the number of available posts for each category.
