The SMAT exam comprises of stages to check the understanding level of aspirants towards sport and awareness of Sport Management. The exam pattern and marking scheme for Bachelor Degree Course is different from Master Degree and PGP courses. For admission in IISM, Candidates are tested on their Quantitative Analysis, English, and Awareness of the Sports Industry. Furthermore, aspirants from any educational qualification and who have a keen interest to join the sports industry can apply for this course at the official website of IISM. It is a Computer-based exam that is held in a three-round.

Exam Notification – SMAT 2022

The IISM changed the SMAT exam patterns and marking scheme in 2022, henceforth the exam was held online instead of offline mode. Before Covid-19, candidates have to appear for the exam at the examination venue allotted by the exam conducting authority. Due to Covid-19 candidates were allowed to give exams from their homes through online proctoring.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the SMAT exam, candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria for the SMAT exam carefully. So that they can easily understand the admission process. Candidates can take admission through the SMAT exam in their preferred courses. They can go through the below-mentioned points about eligibility criteria for different courses-

Eligibility criteria for admission through SMAT

1. Nationality – candidates must be Indian.
2. Qualification – minimum qualification is HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) for admission in BSM course, on the other hand, UG (Under Graduates) is required to take admission in MSM, Well Management Diploma.
3. Under the reserved category, candidates must have a 50 % score in HSC and UG.
4. Reserved category candidates must have at least a 45% score in HSC and UG.

Eligibility Criteria through MAH-CET

IISM allows admission through Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MAH-CET) exam too. There is some % reservation allotted to MAH-CET applicants. In addition to admission, postgraduates can also apply through their MAH-CET score

1. Open category candidates can apply
2. Reservation provides to only Maharashtra domicile applicants
3. For open category candidates, the minimum percentile is 50 in MAH-CET Exam
4. For reserved category candidates, the minimum percentile is 45 in the MAH-CET exam.

SMAT 2022 Registration Process

IISM releases SMAT application form for admission in various courses on its official website every year sessions wise. Candidates who want to take admission in IISM and seek opportunities in the sports industry can go through the following steps-

Note- The registration process for the SMAT exam has been divided into 4 steps. Therefore, candidates should fill the form very carefully since there is no refund policy after the rejection of the application form.

First Step  – Registration

• Go to the official website of IISM
• On the homepage, click on the link that reads “Registration”
• Then fill in details, such as the name of applicants, mobile number, email ID, city, address, etc
• After completion of the registration form, click on the “Submit Tab”
• Candidates will receive a verification mail. In addition, to confirm the application, candidates need to verify the mail.

Second Step  – Application Form

• Login with credentials (registered email and password you received while filling registration form) on the official website
• Fill in details such as name, educational qualification, score, parents name, etc
• Before the final submission, candidates should recheck all the detailed enter
• In the end, enter preview and submit the application form

Third Step – Application Fee

• The third step is to submit the application fee. Candidates can submit the application fee online using Debit card/credit card/net banking, etc

Fourth Step  – Uploading Documents

• After successful completion of fee payment, candidates will proceed to upload documents
• The online number will be generated
• Candidates have to upload their scanned colored photograph and signature in the desired size on the upload section
• in the end, take a printout of the application form for further use

SMAT 2022 Syllabus

SMAT exam syllabus is divided into 5 sections which include Quantitative Analysis, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, Sport-Related questions, and Verbal Ability & Comprehension. The main focus of the SMAT exam is to check candidates’ knowledge about sports as 30 percent weightage is given to the sports section. Moreover, candidates are advised to not only focus on the recent record of sports and events of sports but also cover depth knowledge about all aspects of sports and its industry.

SMAT 2022 Exam Pattern

The SMAT examination has five sections consisting of 80 questions in total. Candidates are given 80 minutes in SMAT 2022 Examination. Therefore, the question paper type is objective and the maximum question belongs to the sports awareness section. The SMAT exam is conducted in three phases so that after clearing the first phase candidates will be invited to the second phase and further. Candidates need to score at least 50 percent to seat in the second round of the SMAT examination.

SMAT 2022  Exam Chapter Wise Weightage

The maximum weightage is given to the English and Sport Awareness section. SMAT exam focuses more on selecting questions from verbal ability, verbal reasoning & reading comprehension, and sport-related question to test the candidates’ knowledge as the exam is specially designed for the sport management industry. So that it is expected from students to know everything about the sports ecosystem.

Mode of exam – Online

Total Round –   Three

First-round- It is an objective-type question paper.

Second round-

• After clearing the first round, candidates are invited to the next round. Round two is different for MSM and BSM.
• For MSM/ PGPS & WM, students will have to submit a Statement of Purpose (SoP) coupled with explaining why they want to join the Master’s program.
• Candidates will get a questionnaire to write SoP.
• In addition to BSM, students reaching Round 2 will have to submit an essay on the topic given to them related to sports and social issues.
• Then pointers will be given to selected candidates to write the essay.

Third round – It is a Personal Interview round. Candidates will be shortlisted based on the round second. The interview shall focus on the candidate’s liking and awareness of the current events of the Sports Authority, Administration, Business of Sports, and Industry.

Exam Admit Card

The admit card of the SMAT 2022 exam for the June & July session has been released. International Institute of Sport Management (IISM) issues SMAT admit cards depending on the month of the entrance exam. SMAT admit card is only available in the online mode, which means conducting authority does not send admit cards through postal medium to any individual. Candidates must carry their credentials such as roll number, registration number, password, and date of birth in order to download the admit card.

Steps To Download Admit Card

Candidates who have successfully registered for SMAT 2022 examination will be able to download the SMAT admit card by following the below-mentioned steps. To download the SMAT admit card, candidates need to log in to credential details.

First, Go to the official website of the IISM

Second, On the homepage, click on the link that reads ‘Download the SMAT 2022 admit card’ session wise

Third, After clicking the downloading link, candidates will be asked to enter credential details such as roll number/DoB/registration number/password

Fourth, Click on login/submit

Fifth, Admit card will be seen on the screen

Six, Download the admit card and take a printout of it for further reference

The SMAT admit card is a document that will have all personal and essential examination-related details. So that candidates must present at the examination venue 30 minutes before the exam time to complete the initial formalities. Hence, it is important to carry a valid ID proof along with SMAT admit card.

SMAT 2022 Exam Result

IISM will announce the SMAT 2022 exam result for the May session on May 16th, 2022 for the first phase and May 19th, 2022 for the second phase.. IISM informs candidates about the announcements of results via mail. Candidates must know what details are mentioned on the SMAT result. In case of not understanding the format or patterns of results; prior knowledge may help to get your qualifying status. The details that are mentioned on the SMAT result are as follow–

• Name of the candidates
• Qualifying status whether passed or not
• Overall percentage required to clear the SMAT exam
• Candidates’ percentile
• Course name
• The rank of the candidates

These above-mentioned details are important to know whether candidates are selected or not. The authority publishes results in a PDF file which have the name of all the appeared candidates at the SMAT exam. All the above-mentioned details are noted against each candidate’s name. Students who have a ‘Yes’ in front of their name under the qualified tab need to appear for the GD/PI round.

Step 3. On searching the link, a drop-down will appear on the screen. Click on the link that reads ‘SMAT Result’

Step 4. In addition, after clicking the link, candidates will be directed to the new page. Where three links are available

• Bachelors in sports management –BSM
• Master in sport management – MSM
• PGP in sport & wellness management – PGPS/WM

Step 5. Now, candidates have to select the course applied for on the browser and click on the respective link.

Step 6. Candidates have to log in to download or check the SMAT result

Step 7. Login with credential ID and password. After successful completion of the login, the exam results will be seen on the screen.

Qualifying Marks

• Candidates have to score at least 50 percent in the first stage of the exam
• Moreover, the PI round is about 120 marks. To take admission in IISM, candidates are needed to score 60 percent cumulative of both stages.
