NEET (in NEET SS) stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. But, it was formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test(AIPMT). It is a pre-medical exam for students nationwide. So, it is for people who wish to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS). Most importantly, this exam marks its validation abroad as well.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. It provides the outcome to the Directorate General of Health Services. It categorizes under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and State Counselling Authorities. the Govt. made an amendment to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 in 2016. After that NEET was granted a statutory status. So, they could monitor and conduct entrance examinations for all medical sciences including super specialty courses.
In the year 2017, the authorities on a national level, however, made a review of the exam structure. The status of this was also assessed. The impact it made on the national medical development was gauged. And meanwhile, its influence on the technological growth of various medical sectors of Indian industry was also assessed. The Govt. of India felt that a solid push had to be given to the entrance exam procedure. After that, this decision was followed by an unprecedented and sudden move. A national strategy evolved.
The Union Health Ministry introduced (NEET) – SS (Super Specialty) Entrance Exam. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Specialty (NEET) – SS was made mandatory for all medical sciences higher studies. The aspirants of super-specialty Doctorate of drugs (DM); Master of Surgery (MCh) and Post Doctoral Certificate (PDCC) courses must clear the NEET-SS entrance examination. This was except undergraduate and postgraduate courses, in medical sciences. Thus, this was to give appropriate recognition and importance to Medical career-oriented students.
The Indian government, therefore, needed to create a statutory organization as the exam conducting body. But, there were quite some issues with that. So, it was decided that the National Board of Examinations (NBE), will conduct the first-ever NEET-SS exam. This body, however, also monitors NEET (PG). But, the states, some recognized universities, and few other institutes were permitted to conduct the counseling. Hence, NEET SS came into existence. With adequate autonomy and flexibility as well in its operations, it was so, designed to achieve peaceful developments of the Indian Medical Structure. Certification that would be remarking and connected to what matters.
NEET SS is an exam quite in its infancy. In earlier times, a post-graduate medico to develop the interest towards a specific specialty learned and understood the subject. After that, came an individual’s preparation for the entrance exam. One had to pass the exam and then qualify for a seat. Thus, when one entered the course one was theoretically sound. The thought process was refined. What one intended to learn was clear in mind. The practical aspect and application of the theory were only to be done hands-on.
But abruptly news came of NEET Super Speciality entrance. That meant one exam for all Super Speciality courses. It left everyone perplexed. But gradually things eased up. Thus, NEET SS came into existence. With adequate autonomy and flexibility as well in its operations, it was so, designed to achieve peaceful developments of the Indian Medical Structure. NEET SS had been strategized by NBE to favor a common pattern and single entrance exam. It was for all the candidates preparing for SS. But, some say that while in the rush, they have skipped the true purpose of a super specialty course.
There’s one door entry examination which is good. But, the pattern has deteriorated. Study internal medicine or surgery and provides exam. Take seats supported whatever rank you achieve. So basically one who intended to become a neurosurgeon satisfies oneself with pursuing some else specialty (except only a few who are determined to require a specific subject). Students cram their textbooks, give exams, and supported their rank plan out their subject specialty. The esteemed institute gets a raw post-graduate trainee. One who has nothing but sheer basic information of that concerned specialty. They first got to train him/her regarding the topic then teach finer aspects.
Apart from that if you wish to pursue your course from centralized institutes like AIIMS, PGI, NIMHANS, JIPMER, SRI CHITRA; then you need to prepare according to the old pattern. So basically you can either opt for
So, NEET SS stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Thus, as the name says, it is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test of our country, India. It however works under the Dept. of Public Health Affairs, Ministry of India, and the State Counselling Authoritative body. NEET SS is responsible for the exam of candidates. That is the aspirants of super-specialty Doctorate of Medicine (DM); Master of Surgery (M.Ch) and Post Doctoral Certificate (PDCC).
