To become an IAS officer, you need to clear 3 levels- Prelims, Mains and Interview.

Prelims: It is an objective paper which is usually conducted in June. 2 papers, general studies paper 1 and general studies paper 2 are held of 200 marks each. Marks are not counted at the time of final ranking but it should be cleared to give mains exam.

Mains: It is a written exam. Generally conducted in September/October. It consists of 9 papers. 7 of which are counted at the time of final merit ranking. The mains exam has 1750 marks

Interview: Only those who clear both prelims and mains are called for an interview. This is the personality check round which is conducted in march-may. The total marks for the interview are 275.

The results are announced in May end.
