About RBI & RBI Assistant Exam 

RBI is the central bank of India. And RBI Assistant exam is one of the most preferred banking exams in the country. The exam is held for candidates who want to work for the bank as an Assistant.

It was founded in 1935 by British Raj. RBI conducts exams for officers and office assistants for various departments.

RBI Assistant Selection Procedure

To fill Assistant positions, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducts competitive examinations. The selection process will be divided into two stages. The first phase is the Preliminary Examination, and the second phase is the Main Examination, followed by the RBI’s Language Proficiency Test (LPT).

I. Preliminary Examination: The preliminary examination will consist of 100 Objective type (multiple choice questions) and will be worth a maximum of 100 marks in one hour. Only those who pass the preliminary exam will be eligible to take the main exam.

II. Mains Exam: The mains exam will consist of 200 Objective type (multiple choice questions) and will carry a maximum of 100 marks. Two and a half hours and fifteen minutes.

III. Language Proficiency Test (LPT): Candidates selected from the mains online examination will be tested on their language skills (LPT). The language competency test will be administered in the state’s official/local language.

RBI Assistant Application Fee 

The fee structure for the RBI Assistant test is listed below for each category. The fee must be paid online by the applicant.

The payment for the exam fee can be paid using Debit/ Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS and Mobile Payment Wallets. In addition, admit cards for RBI Grade-B exams are usually released a few weeks before the exam date. The admit cards are available for download from the official website.


RBI Assistant Eligibility Criteria 

Candidates who fulfill eligibility criteria can become part of the recruitment process for the RBI Assistant vacancy. The candidate must satisfy age, education, and nationality criteria.

Age (as on Feb. 1st 2021) 

Age limit must be between 18 and 25 years. Candidates must have been born not earlier than Feb. 2nd 1996 and 

not later than Feb. 1st 2003 (both days including) are only eligible to apply for the exam. 

Relaxation in the Upper Age Limit: 

There are some relaxation for the upper age limit candidate related to backward class and service officers.

Educational Qualifications (As of 26.08.2020):  

  1. An applicant must have completed 10th grade (S.S.C./Matriculation) in the state or territory in question.
  2. The candidate must be a resident of the state or territory that falls within the Regional Jurisdiction of the Recruitment Office to which he or she is applying.
  3. The candidate should not be a graduate as on Feb. 1st 2021. Graduates and candidates possessing higher qualifications are not eligible to apply.

RBI Assistant Salary

An RBI Assistant’s monthly in-hand salary is Rs 36091/-. And the increment will be held twice or three times a year, and the monthly wage will increase. Furthermore, the wage will be enhanced further as a result of internal promotions.

The benefits and allowances that an Assistant receives in the RBI boost the Assistant’s income. It covers the cost of living, housing rent, city compensatory, and transportation allowances.


How to apply? 

RBI has opened the online registration window of RBI Assistant on Feb. 24th 2021. Candidates are required to apply only online through RBI’s website.

The application form is available on the RBI website. The steps to fill RBI Assistant application form are explained below. The application can be filled only by online method. 

Step 1: RBI Assistant Exam Registration 

  • Open the IBPS website.
  • Click the link ‘New Registration’ on the home page of IBPS.
  • Enter name, phone number, email id, and security code
  • Upon successful registration, a provisional registration number and password are generated.
  • The provisional registration number and password are also sent to the registered email ID and password.

Step 2: Upload Photo and Signature 

  • Post-registration, candidates need to upload the photograph, signature, left thumb impression, and handwritten declaration
  • Signature in capital letters will not be accepted 
  • The left thumb impression should be properly visible
  • The handwritten statement should be in English only

Step 3: Fill the detailed application form 

This page is divided into three parts – basic details, educational qualification & experience, and preferences. Check details below: 

Basic details: In this part, candidates need to fill in the category, nationality, personal information, select exam centers, date of birth, gender, father’s name or mother’s name, address, etc. 

Educational Qualification, Work Experience & Languages: Here, candidates need to enter details of their graduation such as year of passing, college, percentage of marks, grade (if any). They are also required to enter their work experience. Candidates are also required to enter the languages they can read, write and speak. 

Preferences: Candidates need to enter the importance of banks where they wish to work upon selection. SC/ST/Minority candidates can opt for pre-exam training in this part.  

Step 4: Preview of RBI Assistant application form 

Candidates must preview the application form before the final submission. Then, they can edit the details entered in the application form while validating the same. Once this is complete, candidates need to agree to the terms and conditions and submit their applications. 

Step 5: RBI Assistant fee payment 

  • Candidates need to follow the steps below for making payment. 
  • The payment modes use Debit/ Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, and Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets by providing information.
  • After the successful transaction, an e-receipt will be generated. 
  • Candidates must print the e-receipt as well as the online application form that contains the fee payment information.
