You can opt for a Diploma right after tenth grade. And, it is a three-year course.
You need to appear for the exam conducted by various Boards. After that, students are admitted to the Diploma colleges by their rank. The higher the rank, the better the college. But, a few polytechnic colleges admit students on the basis of their tenth result.
After this, you will be given the Diploma. You can take a job as a junior engineer or get admission in the second year of B.Tech.
Another option is to completes diploma through AMIE (Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers). AMIE is a certification given by Institution of Engineers, Kolkata, India. You need to pass Section A, Project Work and Section B exam. And, If you pass both sections, you become an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (AM). AMIE is equivalent to B Tech.
First, you need class X with Science, Math, and English as 3 of the main subjects, and with a minimum score of 50%, and an ITI- qualification. Also, you should be very strong at Maths and physics. Thus, all your basics in these subjects should be very clear. These help you to answer all questions. There are multiple books available for preparation. And, prepare well in advance. Last moment study will really not help you get through this competitive exam!
The average salary with a diploma in Civil Engineering is about INR 2 to 15 lacs per annum with years of experience.

BTech in Civil Engineering
This is one of the most sought out courses in India. You can go for this after you have completed 12th. It is a four-year course.
You should pass 12th standard in Science stream with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized board such as CBSE, ICSE or another recognized board. Also, you should score minimum 60% percentage in 12th.
You need to crack the Engineering Entrance exam. JEE Main is the first exam. It is a national level exam. And, is very competitive with about 10 Lakhs applicants every year. This exam is for admission to the NITs, IIITs and CFTIs.
Also, it is the first stage of the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) system. After this, the next is JEE Advanced.
There is a huge competition in this field. Therefore, people appear for many other exams with these.
After completion of your four-year BTech including an internship, the person can join Private or Government sector jobs as Assistant engineers.
You can appear for the Combined Engineering Services Examination for recruitment of engineers. There are four categories: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. This exam is conducted by UPSC.
If you are interested to remain in academics, then, you can opt for a higher qualification. For eg, M.E/MTech in Civil Engineering with a PhD in Civil Engineering.
However, the average salary of a person with a degree in Civil Engineering is about INR 3 lacs to 30 lacs per annum with the years of experience.
MTech in Civil Engineering
You should pass the Bachelor of Civil Engineering from a recognized university to apply for this. You should also score more than 80% per cent in total.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level exam conducted every year for admission M.Tech and PHd at IITs, NITs and IIITs. The exam is jointly conducted by seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
But, preparing is no easy job. It is one of the toughest exams in India for students who’ve just completed their 12th grade. Pupils start preparing for JEE from 11th standard. Again, you should have a strong command over mathematics, physics and chemistry. Thus, just your NCERT’s/ school books are not enough. The difficulty level of the paper is high. Also, students are becoming more and more competitive. Therefore, you need strong basics at the tips of your fingers. Thus, plan your preparation well. So, your syllabus should be over a few months before the entrance to revise.

They lead a team of diverse individuals. Thus, they need to have excellent communication skills. They also have to speak to clients and the public. Because, they have to explain technical ideas in clear ways.
People such as architects, construction managers, contractors, laborer etc come under this. They have to manage and lead this entire team to get results. Thus, they have to provide direction and feedback, motivate others and set timelines.
They need skills, like, understanding of minute technicalities. So, they should know math and physics. Also, map reading, reviewing blueprints, design techniques, etc. All of these skills make the project very solid from the base.
A lot of Civil Engineers choose to work in the government sector as well. The jobs are Sub Divisional Officers (SDO) or Assistant Engineer. Also, they can go up to the post of Chief Engineer as well. If one qualifies the Combined Engineering Services exam, he/ she can get to the topmost technical post of the Government of India. The Government offers them with exclusive perks in addition to the salary.
