Established in 1964, the University of Agricultural Sciences is located in the Silicon Valley of India, that is, Bangalore in Karnataka. Moreover, UAS is an autonomous not-for-profit multidisciplinary higher education institute. As a matter of fact, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) recognized UAS as the best agricultural university in India. For this reason, Bangalore Agricultural University conferred the Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award for excellence twice in 2001 as well as in 2012. Moreover, the territorial jurisdiction of UAS spreads over 15 southern districts of Karnataka. Earlier, the Fisheries College of Mangalore was a part of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. However, there were some differences in the agro-climate of both the universities. For this reason, the former was bifurcated from the latter one.

 Besides this, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore has a wide notable alumni base. History of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore

As a matter of fact, the story of the foundation of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, started with the formation of the University Education Commission (UEC) in 1948. To clarify, the commission examined the colleges of the USA as a potential model for agricultural colleges in India. Subsequently, the second team of UEC emphasized on granting autonomous status to the agricultural universities. In addition to this, UEC decided to include agriculture-related subjects such as veterinary, and home science on a single campus.

As a result, the Karnataka Government passed Act Number 22 which lead to the establishment of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore in 1963. However, UAS started functioning on 21st August 1964. On the whole, the history of the University of Agricultural Sciences relates to serving the agricultural needs of Karnataka.
