Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University is one of the most well-known university located in the Chittoor district, Tirupati. The Government of Andhra Pradesh established the university under Act no.18 in 2005. The University Grants Commission has approved Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University. There are five colleges in total, which offers courses only related to Veterinary Sciences. The university offers both Bachelors and Master’s degree in many programs.

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University offers programs in many disciplines including Dairy and Fishery Sciences, Veterinary in UG, PG and doctoral levels as well. A majority of the courses aim to help harvest technologies. Moreover, there are around 14 research stations for Livestock alone. The university also controls the Acharya N.G Ranga Agriculture University faculty as well.

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University: Campus

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University campus is located in Tirupati which covers around 5000 acres. The campus has many facilities available for the students. There is a separate hostel for girls and boys. Moreover, the campus has accommodation facilities for the student’s parents and friends as well.

Additionally, the campus has an auditorium, library, computer centre to name a few. Since the campus is very extensive, it provides students to make use of all the facilities available for a better learning experience focusing on live projects.

Courses at Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University

There is a wide range of courses offered, in many disciplines including Veterinary, Science, Agriculture and Technology.

Bachelors: The university offers B.Tech., B.Sc., B.F.Sc. and B.V.Sc. and AH. B.F.Sc. and B.Tech. courses are for a duration of four years. The specialization for B.Tech. offered is dairy technology. Moreover, for B.Sc. Hons, the specialization is available for horticulture and agriculture.

Masters: With specialization in Dairy microbiology and dairy technology, the university offers M.Tech. for a duration of two years.

Additionally one of the most extensive course is M.V.Sc, it has many specializations in Animal nutrition, livestock product technology, Veterinary medicine, Livestock production management, Veterinary surgery and radiology, Veterinary microbiology, Poultry science, Veterinary gynecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary pathology, Veterinary parasitology, Veterinary gynecology and obstetrics, Veterinary biotechnology and Veterinary biochemistry among many others.

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University also offers an M.F.Sc for a duration of two years. Additionally, the candidates need a B.F.Sc degree from State Agricultural Universities. Moreover, the specializations on this course are Fish processing technology, aquaculture, Aquatic environment management, Fishery resource management to name a few.

PhD: The courses in the doctoral levels are also many in number. The duration of a PhD course is three years. Some of the specializations include Veterinary medicines, biochemistry, animal husbandry, microbiology, Animal nutrition, Animal and genetic breeding, Livestock product technology among many others.

History of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University

The college of Veterinary Science in Bapatla was established in 1955, and it was later shifted to Tirupati. This marked the establishment of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University. Later on, when the college celebrated the golden jubilee, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University was formally established. Additionally, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh took this decision and established the university through the University Act, 2005.

After that, Y.S Rajasekhar Reddy inaugurated the university officially in 2005. Moreover, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University also controlled the Acharya N.G Ranga Agricultural University after their official establishment.

Now there are around 300 faculty members in the university along with more than 50 Associate Dean/Principal Scientists.

Infrastructure at Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University


The library in all the colleges has a large number of books. The library has many journals, periodicals and database services as well. The students can access those services with the help of the Wi-Fi available on campus. There are both national and international journals available along with back volumes.

Additionally, there are reprography services, barcoding and other facilities in the library. A majority of the functions in the library is computerized making it easier for students to access the books and journals, be it physical copies or online.


The university offers accommodation facilities to both boys and girls. The hostels are in separate buildings along with a canteen in each building. Moreover, the hostel also has a kitchen and a dining hall for the students. Some of the other facilities available are cots, fans and study tables among many others.

The university hostel provides a safe and comfortable environment for the students with proper security and access to medical facilities as well.

Other facilities

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University has a proper sports complex for many outdoor and indoor games. Other than that, there is an auditorium that is used for various functions or ceremonies. Moreover, the computer centre in the university is also very extensive. Internet facilities are equipped for all the computers.

These services are available to both students and staff, so they can use the computers for educational purposes at any time.


SVVU placement cell is very efficient and a large number of students acquire many positions in various companies. Some of the top companies who participate in the placement drive are Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Wipro and Cognizant to name a few.

There are a majority of on-campus placements and many students are offered private jobs too. Moreover, it is mandatory for students to complete an internship before they graduate. This helps the students get better exposure and work on live projects.

With respect to the said internships, there are more chances of companies offering more roles to students with a lot of prior experience.

Fee Structure

The fee structure for most of the courses is around INR 25,000. As for B.Tech., BVSc and AH, the annual fees is around INR 28,00 and 23,000 respectively. Moreover, for MTech in Dairy Technology and M.V.Sc., the fees are around INR 26,000 AND 35,000 respectively.

The annual fees for PhD, regardless of the specializations, the annual fees is around INR 26,000.
