Founded in 2009 National Law University and Judicial Academy is a public law school and a National Law University. The Government of Assam generously funds the Law University. Besides, the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Bar Council of India (BCI), and the Association of Indian Universities all approve the university. The NLUJAA is one of the twenty National Law Universities that have been founded throughout the nation. NLUJAA was founded with the goal of educating students in the area of law. However, students in the area of law may choose from a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the institution. Moreover, NLU Assam offers nine courses in one stream.

The university’s goal is to transmit and develop legal education and training at all levels, as well as to attain excellence in the functioning of the judicial institution. Hence, the university promotes legal, cultural, and ethical principles by fostering many disciplines of law. Besides, the university is almost the same as NLSIU, Bengaluru, which has new standards of competence in India and internationally in many areas of legal learning and the legal industry. NLUJAA has been steadily moving forward in its Quest of Superior since its establishment in September 2011. However, students must pass a tough evaluation procedure, Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). On the basis of CLAT students get admissions to national law schools.

Campus

The National Law University is at Agiyathuri, Amingaon, on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River. It has a large campus space that spans 50 acres and is set among beautiful scenery. Administration Building, Educational Wing, Hostels have been operational since December 2016, while Group C and D flats and the Library Building have been operational since January 2018 and August 2020, respectively. However, the next part of building development has begun with the permission of the Government of Assam and financial backing of Rs. 46 crores from the same. The Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is 19 km from the institution, whereas, the closest train station is Guwahati Railway Station.

Courses Offered at NLUJAA

The university offers B.A., LL.B. as an integrated five-year course, as well as LL.M. as a one-year degree. It also provides Ph.D. in law. NLUJAA enrollment is via rigorous entrance exams after which a consultation meeting takes place. Candidates must pass CLAT for B.A., LL.B., and LL.M. Admission to all courses is merit-based. However, the length of each course, though, differs based on the course’s scope. Now, read below to know about courses at the university:

  • To get admission in NLUJAA’s B.A., LL.B. program, the applicant must pass 10+2 or equivalent with at least 50 percent marks to join this program.
  • To pursue a specialized LL.M., students must choose at least four of the six options. For entrance to this course, applicants must pass either a 3-year or 5-year integrated LL.B. degree with at least 55 percent marks. The applicant must also pass the CLAT entrance test to qualify. Eligible applicants for or waiting for the results of the exam may sit for the admissions test if they provide evidence of results at counseling time.
  • Ph.D. is the organization’s effort to give legal research greater prominence. Students for Ph.D. can either take full-time or part-time enrollment. However, the applicant must have a Master’s Degree in Law with at least 55% marks. Applicants must also clear the University’s admission test. Applicants who pass the entry exam and the exempt students will have to present a preliminary plan. The applicants will be summoned for an interview on their merit basis and the Preliminary Proposal.

Hostels

The NLUJAA Library, which is self-contained, is in the center of the Campus in Amingaon. The library is a four-floor beautiful structure that spans about 50,000 square feet. The library also features a unique digital library area on the second story, which provides users with access to the library’s materials. Besides, the library has roughly 20,000 print compilations in various sections, including the Law textbook section, the Social Science section, the Reference Section, and the Back Volume Section. Self-Issue Return Kiosk, SureBind Systems 2 Strip Binders, BookEye 4 Scanner, Kindle Paperwhite, OPAC Kiosk on each level, and other contemporary conveniences are among the library’s networking equipment.

IT Infrastructure

The IT Section has a fully functioning Computer Lab with a score of high-configuration desktops and a High Availability Power Bank with a capacity of 40 KVA redundant online UPS system, providing high ability production and dependable power supply. Learners get proper LAN connection in their Hostel Rooms. In addition, the Centre provides 24-hour assistance for network, hardware, and software problems affecting professors, staff, and students.

Healthcare

The NLUJAA Health Centre is a resources and services center at the university. All NLUJAA students, employees, and faculty members have access to universal, easy health and counseling services.  The university’s aim is to provide significant value to the NLUJAA journey for students as well as provide comfort in realizing that NLUJAA provides a basic medical safety net. Ambulance service is available every day.
