Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IRAI) is often called Pusa Institute. It is because of the history of the Institute. In other words, the institute was earlier in Pusa Bihar and now in Pusa, Delhi. The institute from its formative days has developed and contributed to the development of the country by large. IARI offers courses in the Master (PG) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) levels only. The courses available at the master’s level are M.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering, M.Tech in Post food harvest technology, M.tech in Bioinformatics, M.Tech in Genetics, M.Tech in Water Science and Technology. Moreover, courses are available in M.Sc. and MCA. The M.Sc. program has 18 specializations on offer. Namely few are M.Sc in Biotechnology and M.Sc. in Horticulture. Mr. Henry Phipps a prominent American businessman who had the second-largest share in America’s giant steel company Carnegie Steel made a wholesome donation of 30000 British pounds for the formation of a college in the field of Agriculture. The institute thus was established with the said donation. It was named Agriculture research Institute when established in 1905. Though the institute was actually set up in Bihar, it has to be moved to Delhi in 1936 due to an earthquake that destroyed the institute. Presently the institute has more than 20 disciplines available, however, in its initial days, it started with just disciplines in core agriculture, Mycology, and cattle breeding.
After Moving to Delhi the institute post-independence was renamed to Indian Agriculture Research Institute. Furthermore, the institute has since established itself as the prime contributor in the field of agriculture. Moreover, the institute is credited for the creation of resistant variants of Wheat 1950. Finally, in 1958 the institute received the status of deemed University from UGC. It is also worth noting that the 70’s green revolution is the fruit of research at IARI.

The institute has sum total of seven hostels available to its students. Hostels are separate for boys, girls, and married students. Five hostels are for boys and one each for married students and girls. The hostels have facilities like proper furnishing and clean water available as well. Moreover, facilities like a saloon, book shops, indoor gaming rooms, and recreational space are also available. The following are the admissions and registration procedures for PhD students at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
