It is different for each state as well as for the territory of India. The local legislative assembly of India does the inauguration of such universities. The total number of state universities in India is 443 at the moment. There are many state universities in India. We have got around 27 states and 9 territories. Each one of those at least has one university there.

The state with most universities in India is the city of “royal Bengal tiger”. I’m talking about the one and only West Bengal.
