Eligibility For Design

If you want to pursue a degree in design you must be eligible to meet the conditions given below. So, the eligibility criteria for design are as follows.

UG Eligibility Criteria

If you wish to pursue the UG courses in design, there are eligibility criteria given below.

Course Eligibility
BDes Must have completed 10+2 with a minimum of 45%.  Moreover, students of any stream can apply.
BFTech The student completed 10+2 with anyone mandatory subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry.
BFA 10+2 completed from any stream. The percentage criteria are not set. But must have some knowledge of fine arts.
B.Arch Students must have completed 10+2 with a minimum of 50%. However, Mathematics must be a compulsory subject. Moreover, students with diplomas after the 10th can also apply.

PG Eligibility Criteria

A student with a bachelor’s degree can only pursue a master’s degree in design. But there are others criteria too which one has to fulfill. The various eligibility criteria for a PG degree in design are given below.

MDes Students must complete a bachelor’s degree from any design stream or equivalent to it. Moreover, a minimum of 50% in bachelor’s is required.
MFA A BFA degree is required. Additionally, students must have some knowledge of fine art
M.Arch Candidate must have B.Arch degree with a minimum of 50%.

Additionally, all the required degrees must be from a recognized university. However, there may be some privileges for SC/ST and OBC.

Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. is the last stage degree that one can obtain in the field of design. However, to apply for admission to a Ph.D. degree in design one must complete their master’s degree. But there may be other criteria that you have to fulfill too. The eligibility criteria for a Ph.D. degree in design are given below.

Ph.D. in Design MDes degree or degree equivalent to it is required. However, a of minimum 50% aggregate marks is also required.
Ph.D. in Architecture A student must have an M.Arch degree or any degree equivalent to it.

Entrance Exam for Design

To get a degree in design one has to give an entrance exam. These entrance exams are for getting top institute in India. So a student needs to prepare for it accordingly. Some of the entrance exams for a degree in design are as follows.

UCEED

The full form of UCEED is Undergraduate Common Entrance Test for Design. This entrance exam is considered very prestigious for students who want to pursue BDes. Moreover, UCEED is conducted by IIT Bombay every year. But this exam is conducted in online mode only. Moreover, it is a CBT (Computer Based Test). However, to appear in the exam one should have completed 10+2 from a recognized board from any stream.

Students need to appear in the exam after filling the form available in IIT Bombay Portal. However, one can fill form offline by directly visiting the IIT Bombay. After appearing in the exam, you have to fill the form of the colleges you want to apply for. Finally, on the basis of marks and different other stages rounds, the best candidate gets the offer letter. The exam will have MCQ questions based on 12th subjects.

Applicability: Bachelor in Design all branches.

Session: September- March

Exam Mode: Online

Duration: 3 Hours

NIFT Exam

National Institute of Fashion Technology conducts this exam every year. Moreover, this exam is for admission in BDes, MDes, B.Ftech, M.Ftech, and more. However, this exam comprises 3 rounds. They are the Creative Aptitude Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), and GI&PI. For admission in BDes and MDes, you have to give all 3 tests or rounds. But in the case of B.Ftech and M.Ftech, you don’t need to give the CAT exam. However, you have to give GAT and GDPI.

NIFT Exam is an offline exam and it is conducted in pen & paper mode. Students need to qualify for exams to get into the next round. Finally, on the basis of marks obtained in all rounds, students get the offer letter from colleges. However, to fill the form students can directly fill it in from the online portal of NIFT. Whereas, a student can even fill the form offline by visiting the NIFT office. To appear in the exam students need to complete their 10+2 exam. Moreover, the 10+2 must be from a recognized board.

Applicability:  BDes, MDes, B.FTech, M.Ftech, and more.

Session: December- June

Exam Mode: Offline

Duration: CAT (BDes, MDes) – 3 hours, GAT (BDes, MDes) – 2 hours & GAT (B.Ftech, M.Ftech) – 3 hours.

NATA

The full form of NATA is the National Aptitude Test in Architecture. Moreover, it is a national-level entrance exam for a degree in design. NATA is conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) in India. Additionally, NATA is the best exam for admission in B.Arch (Bachelor in Architecture). Moreover, it is conducted 2 times a year. The exam is conducted in online mode where there will be 3 hours. In fact, it is CBT (Computer Based Test). Moreover, the exam is divided into two parts first will be mathematics and aptitude questions comprising 60 questions. Then 2 drawing questions will be there.

To appear in the exam you have to fill the form first. However, you can fill the form in online and offline mode. To fill online you have to visit the NATA portal and complete the procedure. Similarly, for the offline form, you have to visit the NATA office and complete the procedure. After appearing in the exam you have to fill forms of different colleges and on basis of marks in NATA and colleges stage rounds, you can get the offer letter. Additionally, to appear in the exam you must have completed 10+2 with Mathematics as a compulsory subject from a recognized board.

Applicability: Bachelor in Architecture.

Session: January – June

Exam Mode: Online

Duration: 3 hours.

SEED

The full form of SEED is Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design. It is conducted by Symbiosis International University. Moreover, this exam helps to get a degree in design from various Symbiosis Institutes in India. Additionally, this exam is conducted every year for a degree in design. Moreover, this exam is conducted in online mode only. In fact, it is a Computer Based Exam (CBT). The exam will have 125 MCQ questions and you have to complete the exam in 2.5 hours.

To appear in the exam you have to fill online form from Symbiosis University Portal. After filling the form, you can give the exam. And there will be some other round too. Finally on basis of all those students will get admission offer letters from different institutes. To apply for the exam you must have completed 10+2 from any stream but with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

Applicability: BDes, MDes, BFA, MFA, B.Ftech, M.FTech, and more

Exam Mode: Online

Duration: 2.5 hours.
