What is Aeronautical Science?

Aeronautical Science is, in simple words, the Science of how of flight. The Aeronautical Science syllabus covers basics of Physics such as the laws of motion, Aerodynamics, Meteorology, Thermodynamics and also some Chemistry. Additionally, there is also a significant amount of concentration on the design and construction of proper aircrafts. The Aeronautical Science meaning is generally applied to not just airlines and aircrafts but also in many other disciplines and industries. Aeronautical Science as a subject is available in Aeronautical Engineering courses and also in Pilot Training courses. Pilots need to have thorough knowledge of the Science of aircrafts before they start working. Further, knowledge of Aeronautical Science comes in handy in Environmental Design and Pollution Control.

Under the school of Aeronautical Science, there are several courses types one can choose from. From short term certifications and diplomas to full-time degree courses. The short duration courses are importantly cover the technical skills to start working in the chosen field. These courses are for Ticketing, Cabin Crew, Ground Crew and other similar positions. Moreover, the full duration courses are for Engineering, Management and Operations. For all these course the average Aeronautical Science fee structure is between INR 10,000 to INTR 2,50,000.

Aeronautical Science Universities in India offering courses in Aeronautical Science conduct both merit based and entrance test based admission. For the former, applicants needs to submit the aggregate score of the previous qualifying examination. Thereafter, the latter considers national-level, state-level and also university-level tests. In addition, all applicants who secure a rank in the entrance test will through a counselling session for admission.

History of Aeronautical Science

Aeronautical Science has been around since the construction of first aircraft. History attributes the Wright Brothers to making the first aircrafts that was able to stay airborne in December 1903. In India, however, there has been mentions of aircrafts in our ancient texts, in the Ramayana and Mahabharata. When speaking of Aeronautical Science, people also talk of Aeronautical Engineering. Aeronautical Science and Aeronautical Engineering are two fields that developed independently of each other. However, both influence each other a great deal and many aspects of both disciplines overlap each other.

Aeronautical Science Universities in India started offering dedicated courses sometime in early 1940s. This was due to World War II that identified a need for aircrafts in the country. Thereafter, the automobile factory set up by Walchand Hirachand in 1940 transformed to the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. The factory would manufacture, assemble and also repair aircrafts. To work in this factory, management required skilled professionals. This was, in particular, when Engineering and Science courses in Aeronautics started.

Thereafter, the Aeronautical Society of India took shape in the year 1948. The goal of the society was, importantly, to foster the growth and advancement of Aerospace, Aeronautics and Aviation in the country. Today, there are several Aeronautical Science Universities. Thousands of students take admissions in the hope of working for the Indian aviation industry. Aeronautical Science placement are also impressive in the country. Students have received employment in public and private sectors at high salary packages.

Types of Aeronautical Science

Courses in Aeronautical Science includes a range of disciplines or concentrations. Aeronautical Science meaning is similar to Aeronautical Engineering with some differences. Aeronautical Science covers the Science design, building and manufacture of aircrafts. The structure of Aeronautical Science syllabus allows graduates to work in Engineering, Operations, Management and also in Air Traffic Control.

The Aeronautical Science placement depends on the concentration chosen. Aeronautical Science and Aeronautical Engineering graduates can work in the manufacture of aircrafts. On the other hand, Aviation and Airport Management degree holders will work solely in the management departments. In addition, there are also degrees in Aviation, that will cover all of the above topics and more disciplines in the Aviation industry.

Aeronautical Science Universities in the country offer both short term and full-term courses in Aeronautical Science. There are degrees to up to doctorate level in Aeronautical Science. The eligibility criteria and admissions process will differ a lot. Upon finishing a course, the career graph and salary range will differ based on the concentration.

A description of the popular Aeronautical Science disciplines are as below.

Aviation courses, is a much broader aspect of Aeronautical Science. The Aeronautical Science meaning is about the Engineering and Management aspects. On the other hand, Aviation covers the entire industry and all courses like Cabin Crew, Ground Staff, Ticket Management, Engineering, Maintenance etc. Aeronautical Science course include B.Sc and M.Sc degrees. Aviation, alternatively, include short term courses too besides the regular degree programmes. Some popular short term courses are diploma degrees in Pilot Training, Aviation Hospitality, Ticketing Management.

The Aeronautical Science syllabus for Aviation covers the basics of the Aviation industry, national Aviation laws, Aeronautical Science in Engineering etc. Other skill advancing topics like Customer Care, Language Skills, Safety and Security Skills are also taught. Depending on the course, the duration is between 6 months to up to 3 years. In addition, the Aeronautical Science fee structure for Aviation courses is between INR 20,000 to INR 1,50,000.

Due to the meaning of Aviation unlike the Aeronautical Science meaning, being broader, jobs are available in many capacities. Graduates can work in Cabin Crew, Ticketing Agents, Customer Service Agents, Operations Manager, Airport Manager and more. The Aeronautical Science salary for Aviation graduates is between INR 4,00,000 to INR 6,00,000 LPA.

Aeronautical Engineering

Aeronautical Science meaning also includes a highly popular branch, Aeronautical Engineering. It is, as per the name, all about the design, construction and also maintenance of aircrafts. Generally, fresh graduates in this field would be working under an experienced Aeronautical Engineer. However, with time they would be able to handle more responsibilities of their own. Aeronautical Science opportunities for the Engineering field are in different Airlines and also in the defense field.

Aeronautical Science courses in Engineering are available in B.Tech and M.Tech degrees. The Aeronautical Science fee structure for Engineering programmes is between INR 16,000 to INR 2,55,000.
