RRB NTPC Syllabus 2021

The syllabus of the RRB NTPC consists of Mathematics, General Awareness, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. Thus, the syllabus has three major portions.

After reading the above RRB NTPC syllabus you must be thinking that the chapters are vast and there is not enough time to cover the syllabus. However, that is not the case below are three more sections of each subject. Moreover, these sections will help you understand the extent to which you need to cover the syllabus. Section One Mathematics

In the mathematics section, the first topic to cover is mathematics operation. Likewise, under this topic, you should prepare three sub-topics which are fractions, Surds and indices, and approximate value. Moreover, after operations come arithmetic. Furthermore, you already know the chapters in arithmetic include SI, CI, Percentages ratio proportion, and few others. In these chapters, the topics which you should focus on are basic problems on SI, CI, Percentages, interest installments, simple and compound ratios as well as indirect and direct ratios. Furthermore, other important chapters in arithmetic include basic problems on ages, problems of time on boats, trains, and streams.

Likewise, the arithmetic portion also includes sums on averages, and speed and relative speed. Profit and loss is also an important chapter in arithmetic which includes sums on dishonest traders, successive dealings, etc. Last but not least the arithmetic section also includes sums on time and work including topics like efficiency, pipes, and wages.

Rather importantly after arithmetic comes algebra which includes problems on linear equations involving one or two variables. Other than these the mathematics section includes basic sums on geometry, mixtures, mensuration, and number system. Additionally, you should check past papers so that you get a clear picture of the type of questions asked and the pattern in which the questions are asked.

Section Two General Awareness

The General Awareness subject consists of primarily two chapters which further contains many subtopics. Firstly it contains the current affairs chapter which includes topics that deal with the recent happenings in economics, geography, polity, technology, awards, books and authors, and literature among others. Secondly, it contains science that asks questions from basic biology, chemistry, and physics. Additionally, it is notable that a good knowledge of fundamental sciences is required to ace the GA section.

 

Section Three General Intelligence and Reasoning

This portion of the RRB NTPC syllabus includes topics like word formation, blood relation, clock & calendar, distances, and directions, coding and decoding ranking and order, series, analogy, and verbal reasoning. Likewise, one only needs to go through the existing question papers to quickly get an idea of the questions and the level to which they need to prepare for the exam.

 

Different stages of the RRB NTPC syllabus

Generally, government exams have two phases prelim and mains. However, though there are two exams in RRB NTPC the exams are not prelim or mains. Rather the first exam is CBT 1 and the second exam is CBT 2. Moreover, that is not all once a candidate clears CBT 2 there is one more test one needs to appear for.

Likewise, there is either typing skill test or  CBAT depending upon the role or job one has applied for. Now you must be wondering are the syllabus for CBT 1 and CBT 2 different. Then the answer is no the RRB NTPC syllabus is the same, however, there is a little rise in the level of difficulty of questions.

The typing test does not have syllabus. Likewise, one only needs to practice typing Hindi and English on the keyboard. Likewise, visit any online typing platform and test your fingers out. Moreover, you need to type at least  25 words in Hindi per minute (WPM) correctly and 30 WPM English. Please note the CBAT exam is only for applicants applying for station master or traffic assistant moreover these applicants need not prepare for typing tests. Moreover, the CBAT test includes a psychological evaluation test.

 

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern

Above all, the Exam Pattern is simple as it consists primarily of three stages. After getting a

Stage 1: CBT 1 ( Computer-based Test 1). This exam is the first exam the RRB NTPC syllabus for which is as above. Moreover, the CBT 1 exam sees a flush of all the candidates, however only the eligible candidates qualify to the next stage. Furthermore, the below table represents the CBT 1 exam pattern and distribution of marks.

Moreover, the exam awards 1 mark for each correct answer and deducts one-third for each incorrect. This means if you answer one question correctly and 3 incorrectly then you lose the 1 mark obtained for the correct answer. The marking scheme is the same for all candidates, however, PWD candidates get 120 minutes to complete the exam, whereas others get 90 minutes.

Stage 2: CBT 2

Most important the candidates that meet the cutoff in CBT 1 qualify for the CBT 2 exam. The CBT exam is slightly difficult than the CBT 1 exam. The timing and marking scheme for CBT 2 is the same as CBT 1. However, only CBT 2 has few more questions than CBT 1. Likewise, you can easily determine the difference from the below table.

Stage 3: Typing Skill or CBAT

Candidates that qualify for the CBT 2 exam enter into the third stage. Likewise, there is no such exam pattern for typing skill tests as the test itself is of two minutes. Additionally, in this test, candidates need to type at least 30 words in English and at least 25 words in Hindi. In order to qualify further for document verifications. The CBAT exam includes batteries a candidate must pass in six batteries to continue further to the documents verification process.

  • R S Agarwals’ Quantitative Aptitude is a little advanced than M Tyra however this book is a must for RRB NTPC aspirants.

 

For General Awareness

  • Arihant’s book on General knowledge is more than enough for the static part however you must keep an eye out for current affairs.

 

For General intelligence and reasoning

  • BS Sijwali and Indu Sijwal’s book- A New Approach to Reasoning Verbal and Non-Verbal is quite good you should check it out.
  • Another book you can check out is Logical and Analytical Reasoning by AK Gupta.

Finally, it is essential that you stick to one and a maximum of two books to obtain theoretical knowledge. Likewise, avoid getting more than two as it can hamper your flow of studies and hinder the completion of topics in a systemic manner.
