RRB has released the 2022 syllabus of NTPC for CBT 1 and CBT 2.  Candidates preparing for the NTPC 2022 exam can check the latest syllabus here. A candidate with a better understanding of the syllabus and the exam pattern can easily do revision just before the exam.

RRB NTPC Syllabus 2022

The syllabus of the RRB NTPC consists of Mathematics, General Awareness, and General Intelligence and Reasoning.

The mathematics exam is conducted to test the candidate’s calculation accuracy. General awareness exam is taken to test how much the candidate is aware about his surroundings and economy. reasoning portion tests a candidate’s capabilities of taking the right decisions quickly.

Section 1 – Mathematics

In the mathematics section, students should follow this study pattern stated here.

  • Under mathematics operation you should prepare three sub-topics which are fractions, Surds and indices, and approximate value.
  • Arithmetic include SI, CI, Percentages ratio proportion, and few others. In these chapters, the topics which you should focus on are basic problems on SI, CI, Percentages, interest installments, simple and compound ratios as well as indirect and direct ratios. Other important chapters in arithmetic include basic problems on ages, problems of time on boats, trains, and streams.
  • Sums on averages, and speed and relative speed, Profit and loss is also an important chapter in arithmetic which includes sums on dishonest traders, successive dealings, etc. Students must also practice sums on time and work including topics like efficiency, pipes, and wages.
  • Algebra includes problems on linear equations involving one or two variables. There are basic sums on geometry, mixtures, mensuration, and number system.

Aspirants should check past papers to get a clear picture of the type of questions and the pattern of questions asked in the exam.

Section 2 – General Awareness

General Awareness subject consists of primarily two chapters which are further divided into many subtopics. Here is one of the easiest patterns of study designed by us for this subject. 

  • The current affairs chapter which includes topics that deal with the recent happenings in economics, geography, polity, technology, awards, books and authors, and literature among others.
  • From the science portion questions come from basic biology, chemistry, and physics. Additionally, it is notable that a good knowledge of fundamental science is required to ace the GA section.

Section 3 – General Intelligence and Reasoning

Candidates should follow this study plan for General intelligence and reasoning.

  • The main topics are word formation, blood relation, clock & calendar, distances, and directions, coding and decoding ranking and order, series, analogy, and verbal reasoning.

Aspirants need to go through the past question papers to quickly get an idea of the level of questions which they need to prepare for the exam.

Different stages of the RRB NTPC syllabus

RRB NTPC exam is conducted into two phases -CBT 1 and  CBT 2. After that a typing skill test or CBAT is conducted depending upon the role or job one has applied for. The syllabus for CBT 1 and CBT 2 is same. The changeis in the difficulty level of the questions. The level of difficulty of the questions of CBT 2 is always higher than that of CBT 1.

The typing test does not have any syllabus. one only needs to practice typing Hindi and English on the keyboard. Aspirants can practice the same in their personal computer or in any nearby café. Aspirants are asked to type at least  25 words per minute (WPM) in Hindi and 30 WPM in English. Please note the CBAT exam is only for applicants applying for station master or traffic assistant. Lastly CBAT test includes a psychological evaluation test.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern

Exam Pattern of RRB NTPC consists of primarily three stages.

Stage 1: CBT 1

CBT 1 (Computer-based Test)is the first exam of RRB NTPC .The latest syllabus for the same is updated above. The below table represents the CBT 1 exam pattern and distribution of marks.

The exam awards 1 mark for each correct answer and deducts one-third for each incorrect answer. This means if you answer one question correctly and 3 incorrectly then you lose the 1 mark obtained for the correct answer. The marking scheme is the same for all candidates, however, PWD candidates get 120 minutes to complete the exam, whereas others get 90 minutes.

Stage 2: CBT 2

The candidates that meet the cutoff in CBT 1 qualify for the CBT 2 exam. The CBT 2 exam is slightly difficult than the CBT 1 exam. The timing and marking scheme for CBT 2 is the same as CBT 1. However, CBT 2 has few more questions than CBT 1. the difference can be easily determined from the below table.

Stage 3: Typing Skill or CBAT

Candidates that qualify for the CBT 2 exam enter into the third stage. there is no such exam pattern for typing skill tests as the test is of two minutes. In this test, candidates need to type at least 30 words in English and at least 25 words in Hindi in order to qualify further for document verifications.
