It’s the Karnataka power transmission Corp. Ltd (KPTCL) that sets the pattern of the KPTCL Exam. The KPTCL Recruitment Exam Syllabus and Pattern are clearly given in the official notification of the KPTCL website.
The KPTCL exam involves two separate qualifying exams.
The pattern for each exam differs from the other. The selection of the candidate is based on the marks scored in the Written Exam and Interview round.

The KPTCL Exam is a state-level test. KPTCL conducts the exams along with ESCOM for vacancies in both KPTCL and ESCOM. There is an online Aptitude Test for few posts. The Karnataka Power Trans. Corp.Ltd. (KPTCL) holds the exam for various vacant posts. There are two rounds of the qualifying exam. They are namely:
1. Written Exam
2. Interview Round

The Aptitude Test is an online test. It is an MCQ (multiple choice question) format exam. The test pattern for the Aptitude test in KPTCL or ESCOM is the same for all the candidates applying for Asst. Engr., Jnr. Engr, or AEE posts.
A total of 100 questions are asked for one mark each. For every wrong answer given, 0.25 marks will be reduced.
For questions left unattempted, there will be no marks reduced. The medium of the question paper will be both- Kannada and English. The exam duration of the Aptitude test is two hours. The comp. literacy-related questions will be in English only.
According to each of the posts, the core subject will have a marks distribution scheme displayed online. The candidates shall ensure that the whole syllabus is referred for the exam. The official website of KPTCL will have every detail in the Circular Section which shall be frequented by the eligible candidate applying for KPTCL Exam.
The selection of the candidate for the post of Asst. Exec. Engr. (AEE) or Jnr. Engr. (JE) or Asst. Engr. (AE) or Jr. Asst. is decided on the merit obtained in the Online Exam by the candidate. Those individuals who qualify for the Written Exam will only be called for the interview round.
The total of the merit scored by the candidate in both the written Exam and the Interview round sets the selection criteria.
Those eligible candidates applying for the KPTCL Exam shall be well versed in the local language of Karnataka.

Candidates who are applying for the post of Asst. Engr. (AE-Elec. or Civil) or Asst. Exec. Engr. (AEE – Elec.) must have passed their Standard 10th with Kannada as their 1st or 2nd language.
If the candidate has not studied Kannada in his/her SSC school then he/she has to appear for the Kannada exam before taking the Aptitude Test.

After clearing the Written Exam, there is a final round which the candidates have to pass, and that will be the Interview round. Stepping into the interview round or for that matter is not a guarantee of a job.
