The Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam (UPSEE) or Uttar Pradesh Common Entrance Test (UPCET) is a state-level entrance exam for admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In all, candidates can choose from more than 100 courses. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA),  three prestigious universities of the state of UP and their institutes take part in these exams:

  • APJ Abdu Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow
  • The Madan Mohan Malviya University Of Technology,(MMMTU), Gorakhpur
  • Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), Kanpur

IMPORTANT:  The administration has scrapped the UPSEE/UPCET 2022 Examination for admission into various UG and PG courses. From this year onwards, admissions into undergraduate courses like the B. Arch and B Tech will take place through their respective centralized national examinations. For instance, admission into B. Arch will take place through National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA) and for B. Tech through the JEE Mains 2022 Exam.

For a host of other general courses in the UG/PG category, admissions will be finalized through the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 scheduled for the first week of July 2022.

UPSEE/UPCET 2022: LATEST UPDATES

  • UPSEE/UPCET has been scrapped from 2022 onwards. Admissions will take place through NATA (B. Arch), JEE Mains (B. Tech) and CUET 2022 for various UG /PG courses. 
  • For UG Courses: The application form for CUET 2022 will be open from 6th April – 22nd May, 2022. Further, the correction window for the application forms will be open from 25th-31st May, 2022.  The exam is scheduled for the first week of July, 2022 (tentatively). 
  • For PG Courses: The application form for CUET 2022 will be open from 19th May – 18th June, 2022. Further, the correction window for the application forms will be open from 20th-22nd June, 2022. The exam is scheduled in July, 2022 (tentatively).

 

About UPSEE/UPCET and NTA

UPCET or Uttar Pradesh combined entrance test is conducted every year. UPCET was earlier known as UPSEE or Uttar Pradesh State entrance exam. This exam helps students get into the various undergraduate courses in universities. There are many postgraduate courses too for admissions. These universities are-

  • APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow
  • The Madan Mohan Malviya University Of Technology, (MMMTU), Gorakhpur
  • Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), Kanpur

These exams provide an opportunity for candidates to choose from many courses. However, candidates must remember that these exams do not offer B.Tech and B.Arch courses . Those seats are filled by JEE and NATA respectively. Similarly, MBA seats in institutes affiliated with AKTU are filled by CMAT.

Exam Conducting Body

These exams are conducted by the national testing agency or NTA. It was established by the Ministry of Education of the Government of India. This agency was started to make sure that the entrance exams are held freely. As a result, this is a free, self-sustaining, and independent agency. The whole purpose of this body was to conduct fair and proper exams. So that deserving candidates can get admission into good educational institutes.

UPSEE/UPCET (now CUET) Basic Information

UPCET or UPSEE (as known earlier) are held every once a year. Following are basic details that candidates should know about.

  • These exams are conducted once every year.
  • Candidates with Uttar Pradesh domicile can apply for these exams. If the parents of candidates have the domicile, then also they can apply for the exams.
  • UPCET is for the various professional courses offered by the 3 major universities. Admission in B.Tech, B.Arch, and MBA courses in AKTU are accepted based on the score of JEE. Candidates cannot get admission to these courses in AKTU based on the UPCET course.
  • In the academic year 2022, candidates can apply for MBA in AKTU based on their UPCET score. This is only for this academic year. it was announced by the NTA.
  • There is no age limit for applying for UPCET.
  • AKTU is an affiliating university and has institutes all over the state. There are more than 700 institutes under AKTU. There are many different courses in these institutes. Candidates can choose courses like hotel management courses, catering courses, etc.
  • In MMMTU, based on UPCET candidates can get admission in B.Tech second year. This is possible if they have done an engineering diploma course or B.Sc in the required subject. Though this lateral entry is only possible if there are seats available.
  • Admission fees for UPCET is a follows
  • For Male students of the general or OBC category, the fee is Rs. 1300. However, for the female candidates or students of the SC/ST category, the application fee is Rs 650.

 

Reservation

  • There are two types of reservations –
  1. Vertical- this includes unreserved, OBC, SC, or ST Students
  2. Horizontal- wards of freedom fighter, dependent of defense personnel, females students, physically handicapped.
  • UPCET in a computer-based online exam.
  • The languages of these exams for undergraduate courses are both English and Hindi. For post-graduate courses, candidates will give tests in English.

 

Exam date

The NTA conducts UPCET every year. For 2021, NTA had already declared the exam dates. But due to the pandemic, the dates were later on changed. As the dates for filling forms were changes, all the other dates were postponed too. So, now NTA is conducting UPCET in September.

Following is the detailed date description of UPCET-

  • Online registration for the UPCET started on 1st April 2021.
  • The last date of registration is on 15th July 2021.
  • The last date for students to pay their application fee is also 15th July 2021.
  • From 17th to 23rd July, candidates could apply for the correction on the form.
  • NTA announced the exam date for UPCET on 5th and 6th September.
  • The date for the announcement of the result was  September 30.
  • The rest of the dates are also not announced like the date of counseling etc.

Exam Notification

NTA releases exam notifications on the official website. Therefore, candidates must keep themselves updated with all the new announcements. For the year 2021, the NTA made the exam announcement in April. After that, the online registration started. Earlier, NTA has planned exams in June but these were then postponed till September. Therefore, on 1st September, NTA released the admit card for the exams. The date of the result is not yet declared. All the other dates such as counseling dates are also not announced.

NTA announced that they will consider UPCET scores for MBA admissions in the AKTU. NTA changed this admission policy due to the pandemic situation. This change is only for the academic year 2021-22.

 

Eligibility criteria

For UPCET, students must fulfill few criteria. these are important factors. NTA has divided these into three sections-

  • Age
  • Educational qualification
  • State domicile

 

Age-

To appear in UPCET there is no age limit set. Candidates of all ages can appear and take admission in various professional courses.

 

Educational qualification-

UPCET offers various courses. Therefore there are different educational qualification requirements for different courses. Some of those requirements are given here.

 

For B. Pharma-

  • The candidates should have cleared the 12th of UP state board. They must have studied physics, chemistry with maths or biology as optional subjects.
  • They must have scored 45%.

 

For MCA Integrated

  • Should have cleared 12th board or equivalent with 45% at least.
  • Subjects- Physics and Math or Statistics or Accountancy as the compulsory subject. Chemistry, Biology, English/ any other subjects as optional subjects.

 

For MCA in Any Institute Affiliated To AKTU

  • Candidates must have cleared BCA or bachelor’s with computers. The exam board will also consider an equal course or graduation in any subject. But they should also have mathematics as one of the main subjects.
  • They must have scored a minimum aggregate of 50%.

 

For lateral entry in B.Tech

  • Lateral entry in B.Tech courses is only possible if there are vacant seats. The first preference goes to diploma holders.
  • Candidates who have done engineering diploma for 3 years can apply for lateral entry in B.Tech.
  • Candidates who have completed B.Sc in Physics and Math can apply for these exams.

Similarly, for various other courses, there are various educational qualifications are required. Candidates can check these in detail on the exam brochure or exam announcement.

 

Domicile-

Following are rules of domicile for the candidate appearing for UPCET.

  • Candidates with Uttar Pradesh State domicile can appear for the exams.
  • Candidates who have completed their qualifying exams in UP can also apply.
  • If a candidate’s parents have a state domicile, they can apply.
  • If you have not studied in UP, you can show your parents’ domicile. This will also allow you to sit for exams.

There are reservations for different categories of students. These reservations are as per government ruling. These reservations are only for candidates with state domicile. Students who don’t have domiciles will not be able to avail these reservations.

In these categories, there are subcategories too. These subcategories have a certain percent reservation in every category they belong to.

  • If a candidate is a ward of a freedom fighter, they can claim reservation. They will get a 2 % reservation extra in every category.
  • Similarly, physically challenged students can also claim reservation benefits. Wards of defense personnel will also get reservation benefits.
  • Female students of the UP domicile are also eligible for extra reservations.

Registration process

The registration process for UPCET 2021 was started in April. The online registration process Started on 1ST April and went on till mid-July. The registration process is divided into two parts.

 

  Part 1

Following are the steps to register for UPCET.

  • Candidates must log in to the official website for UPCET and chose the option to register for the exam.
  • They should provide all the information asked.
  • Candidates will create a password after filling in the details. This password will allow them to access information in the future.
  • They will choose a security question and will have to choose an answer.
  • Candidates must write on their password, security question, and its answer someplace safe.
  • After submitting all the data, an application number will be generated. Keep this number safe too.
  • This application number will be required for further communication.
  • Candidates can log in using their application number and password. These both are also generated by candidates only.

 

Part 2

Finish part 1 of the registration. now follow the given steps to fill the form.

  • Once registration is done, candidates can log in using their application number and password.
  • Fill in all the required details.
  • Candidates must choose their examination center carefully. NTA will try and make sure that all candidates get the examination center of their choice.
  • Candidates must make sure to read the examination booklet carefully. Read the booklet before filling the form. Prepare soft copies of the documents that are needed.
  • Make sure to fill the application form as soon as possible. This way, candidates will have a good chance of getting the exam center of their choice.
  • After closing the correction window, no request for a change of exam center will be entertained.
  • After filling the form, upload all the required documents.
  • Upload your picture in the given size and jpg format.
  • The application fee is submitted via online mode.
  • Candidates can submit the application fee using a debit card, net banking, or any of the UPI platforms.
  • After paying the application fee, make sure to get the confirmation receipt.
  • Get a printout of the receipt.
  • No step of filling the application form and submitting the fee is in offline mode.
  • Candidates must keep themselves updated on all the news available on the website.

 

UPCET syllabus

There are various courses in which candidates can take admission through UPCET. The entrance exams of these courses have a different syllabus.  All the undergraduate courses have a syllabus of intermediate or 12th of up board. These are of respective subjects. Similarly, for post-graduation courses, candidates should study their graduation syllabus

UPCET exam pattern

Exam pattern for different courses differs as each has different subjects. Though, the marking scheme and time limit for almost all the exams are similar. The basic exam pattern followed in UPCET is-

There are few basics of exam patterns in UPCET-

  • There is no negative marking. Therefore, applicants can attempt all questions without the fear of losing marks on wrong answers.
  • For undergraduate courses, the language of the exam is Hindi and English both. But for PG courses, the medium of paper is English.
  • There is a total of 8 papers for the different courses with different combinations.
  • The marking scheme is separate for all the subjects for different courses. This is also described in the exam booklet. Make sure to read the booklet carefully.
  • For admission in any course, there is a single paper.

 

UPCET admit card

NTA announced the UPCET exams in April. However, there was an increase in covid cases. so, NTA postponed the exams till september. NTA uploads the admit card of candidates on the website. All the candidates can download their admit card from there themselves.  For this year, authorities uploaded the admit cards on 1ST September. Following are the details of the admit card that candidates should keep in mind.

  • Candidates can log in using the application number and password that they made.
  • For the year 2021 UPCET, NTA has already uploaded admit cards on the official website of the exam.
  • Authorities will print the details like exam date and center and course details on the admit card.
  • Exam centres will not allow candidates without admit cards to appear for tests. Therefore, candidates must keep their admit cards safe.
  • You should contact the exam authorities if there is any mistake on the admit card. If you also can not download the admit card, contact the authorities.

UPCET exam result

NTA conducts the UPCET exams and announces the result on the official website of the exam. All the candidates can check the result. NTA will also upload all the results and other important dates. You should only check the website for this information.

For the year 2021, NTA postponed the exam from June to September. The UPCET exams were on 5th and 6th September. however, there has been no announcement about the date of the result so far by NTA.

NTA will announce the date of counseling after the result. Once the result is announced, authorities will announce the rest of the dates.

Candidates must remember not to cheat. Any candidate who will misbehave at the center, will not receive their result. NTA will also cancel their application. Candidates should not try to give exams in any other centre. In this case, too, authorities will cancel their application.

NTA has made no announcement for Group discussion or personal interview. Hence, students should check the website for any updates.

Q1. Are UPSEE and UPCET the same exam?

A1. In 2021, NTA has renamed UPSEE as UPCET. UPCET is Uttar Pradesh common entrance test.

 

Q2. Can I seek admission to AKTU for MBA?

A2. Admissions in MBA courses in AKTU are usually based on the score of students in CMAT. But this year, due to the pandemic many candidates could not appear for CMAT. This is only if they completed a 3-year engineering diploma or have done B.Sc with Math. These admissions are only allowed if there are any vacant seats.

A5.NTA postponed the UPCET exams due to the pandemic. They planned these exams for June 2021. But then the second wave of covid-19 happened. For health and safety reasons, NTA decided to postpone the exams till September. They then conducted UPCET on 5th and 6th September.

 

Q6. How many institutes participate in UPCET?

Q6. Three major universities of Uttar Pradesh participated in UPCET. AKTU, Lucknow is an affiliating university. It has 176 institutes under it. There are many professional courses under it. AKTU had institutes all over Uttar Pradesh. All these institutes allow candidates to apply with their UPCET scores. MMMTU is a non-affiliating university. UPCET also helps in admission to MMMTU and HBTU every year.

 

Q7. Is there any reservation in UPCET exams?

A7. Reservation in UPCET exams is based on government guidelines. There is a reservation for candidates of OBC, SC, and ST categories. Among these categories, there are also reservations for other groups too. Families of defense persons, freedom fighters, and female students also get the reservation.

 

Q8. Is UPCET a tough entrance exam?

A8. Like any other exam, students can clear UPCET with good preparation and practice. Therefore, candidates must follow all instructions. They should also listen to their teachers and study every day.

 

Q9.Which agency conducts UPCET?

A9. National testing agency or, NTA conducts UPCET.  Ministry of Education of India established this agency for proper and transparent exams. NTA also conducts the exams at the international level.

 

Q10. Does NTA announce exams in any newspaper or magazine too?
