Job Description
Chegg helps millions of students improve their writing, research, and communication — which means our AI needs to be genuinely excellent at the same tasks. We are looking for skilled writers to serve as Consultants who love language and hold it to a high standard. You will write original content, evaluate AI-produced text for quality and authenticity, and provide the critique that makes our models sound genuinely human. Fully remote, completely flexible.
Core Responsibilities
- Write original creative and professional content across diverse genres and formats — fiction, narrative essays, persuasive copy, formal reports, dialogue, and editorial — that challenges AI models to keep pace
- Evaluate AI-generated English text for voice, tone, stylistic coherence, and authentic human quality across a wide range of register and audience
- Rewrite and polish AI-produced content to sound more natural, creative, and genuinely engaging — not mechanical or formulaic
- Spot weaknesses in AI writing: pacing failures, hollow word choices, clichés, tonal inconsistency, and loss of narrative momentum
- Provide structured, actionable ratings and written commentary that the model team can use to improve AI language generation
Key Qualifications
- Native or near-native English fluency with a demonstrably high command of grammar, vocabulary, syntax, and style across multiple registers
- Passionate about creative or professional writing — fiction, journalism, copywriting, screenwriting, or any related discipline
- Sharp instincts for voice, tone, and stylistic consistency across genres and audience types
- Self-motivated; reliable; comfortable with independent asynchronous work
- No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
- Published work, a writing portfolio, or a degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
- Experience in editorial review, content strategy, UX writing, or instructional design
- Familiarity with AI writing tools as a critical end user
Why Chegg
- Fully remote — no fixed schedule
- Task-based commitment — typically 10–40 hours per week
- Intellectually varied, genuinely creative work
- Potential for ongoing engagement across a wide range of content projects
