Chegg is seeking PhD-level physicists to design rigorous evaluation problems, author flawless reference solutions, and expose exactly where AI reasoning about the physical world falls apart. This is frontier work requiring deep domain expertise and an uncompromising standard. Fully remote and asynchronous — no prior AI experience necessary.
Core Responsibilities
- Design PhD-qualifying-level physics problems demanding multi-step logical reasoning and mathematical derivation across classical mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics
- Produce gold-standard worked solutions where physical constants, unit conversions, derivation steps, and logical progression are held to publication standard without exception
- Audit AI-generated physics proofs and simulations to identify violations of first principles — conservation laws, symmetry constraints, and physical boundary conditions
- Provide structured, expert feedback that directs the research team to specific model improvements in physics reasoning
- Contribute to university-level and research-grade evaluation benchmarks that advance the state of AI understanding of physical science
Key Qualifications
- PhD completed or in final stages in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, or a directly related discipline
- Deep mastery across at least three core areas: classical mechanics, electrodynamics, statistical mechanics, and quantum mechanics
- Exceptional capacity to write complex physical derivations and arguments clearly and precisely in English
- Uncompromising on notational correctness, unit consistency, and derivation integrity — these details are the standard, not the exception
- Self-directed; comfortable delivering quality work on a fully asynchronous basis
Nice to Have
- Computational proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL for simulation and numerical problem design
- Research background in condensed matter, photonics, quantum information, or biophysics
- Prior experience with AI model evaluation or scientific benchmark design
