Born 7 Nov 1964 in Srinagar, Misri grew up amid the Himalayan foothills before embarking on his diplomatic journey

He studied at Burn Hall & Carmel Convent in J&K, Scindia School (Gwalior), earned a BA in History from Hindu College, DU, and an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpu

After three years in advertising with Lintas and Contract Advertising, Misri joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1989

He served in Brussels, Tunis, and on the Pakistan desk, then as Ambassador to Spain (2014–16) and Myanmar (2016–19) before China (2019–21)

Misri was Deputy National Security Adviser from Jan 2022 until July 2024, advising on strategic and regional challenges

As Foreign Secretary, he has managed India–Pakistan de-escalation (“Operation Sindoor”) and briefed envoys on ceasefire details
