Languages are like living things, and unfortunately, some die out over time, here are 7 examples of lost languages from around the world.

Sumerian

Sumerian died out as a spoken language around 1800 BC, but it continued to be used for religious and scholarly purposes for many centuries afterwards.

Akkadian

Akkadian cuneiform writing was adopted for many other languages,  including Babylonian and Assyrian.

Ancient Egyptian

Ancient Egyptian died out as a spoken language around the 4th century AD, but it continued to be used for religious purposes until the 5th century AD.

Gothic

Gothic had a written form based on the Greek alphabet, the language died out around the 18th century AD.

Dalmatian

Dalmatian was a Romance language spoken  on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea. It was closely related to  Italian, Romanian, and Aromanian.

Eyak was a Native American language spoken in south-central Alaska. It was unrelated to any other language.

Kamchatkan was a family of languages spoken on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia.
