How to Cook Mint Rice at Home

Mint rice, also known as pudina pulao, is a quick, aromatic Indian dish made with fresh mint, rice, and spices—perfect for a refreshing meal.

Basmati rice, fresh mint, green chilies, garlic, ginger, coconut, spices, oil, salt, and lemon juice make this rice flavorful and light.

Ingredients You Need

Blend mint, coriander, green chili, garlic, ginger, and coconut into a fine paste. This gives the rice its unique aroma and taste.

Make the Mint Paste

Heat oil and sauté bay leaf, cloves, cardamom, cumin, and cinnamon until aromatic. This step brings warmth to the dish.

Fry Whole Spices 

Add the mint paste to spices and sauté for a minute. Add soaked basmati rice and stir gently to mix everything well.

Add Paste & Rice 

Add water and salt, bring to boil, cover, and simmer till rice is soft and fluffy. This usually takes 10–15 minutes.

Add Water & Cook 

Turn off heat, fluff rice with a fork. Add lemon juice and garnish with mint. Your mint rice is ready to serve!
