Extreme Heat Survival: What You MUST Know Before Stepping Out!

Heatwaves can cause dehydration, heatstroke, and even death. Vulnerable groups include children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.

1

Hydration Is Your First Defense

Drink water every 30–60 minutes, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks—they dehydrate you.

2

Dress Smart, Stay Cool

Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothes. Cover your head with a hat or scarf and use sunglasses and sunscreen.

3

Avoid Peak Sun Hours

Stay indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM. If you must go out, walk in the shade and take frequent breaks.

4

Eat Light, Stay Right

Eat small, frequent meals. Include fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and citrus to stay hydrated and energized.

5

Recognize Heatstroke Symptoms

Watch for dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and confusion. Seek medical help immediately if symptoms appear.

6

Keep Your Home Cool

Use curtains, fans, and cross-ventilation. Avoid using heat-generating appliances during the day.

7

Help Others Stay Safe

Check on neighbors, especially the elderly and those living alone. Share water and shade when possible.
