Established in 1986, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad is an autonomous public state institution offering higher education in the fields of agriculture, food sciences, forestry, and agricultural marketing. Moreover, UAS is located in the western city of Dharwad in Karnataka. To elaborate, UAS Dharwad is also known by others names such as Vidya Kashi, Hubli-Dharwad city, Pedha Nagari, and Dharmanagari.
As a matter of fact, Karnataka Agricultural University has recognition from top-level national bodies including the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). To elaborate, ICAR graded the UAS Dharwad with an ‘A’ grade. In addition to this, NIRF ranked the University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad at the 83rd position in 2019.
As a matter of fact, the University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad has constituent colleges at 7 locations namely Dharwad, Bijapur, Haveri district, and Sirsi. Furthermore, Karnataka Agricultural University has 5 Colleges, 6 Agriculture Extension Education Centers, and 6 Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Moreover, the Agricultural University Dharwad is popular for its research in horticulture crops. In addition to this, UAS has a community radio station named ‘Krishi Community Radio Station (KCRS). To clarify, KCRS broadcasts programs for 4 hours daily, that is, 2 hours each in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. Bachelor’s Course: Karnataka Agricultural University offers many UG programs in various specialization. However, the most popular Bachelors courses are B.Sc. (Agriculture), B.Sc. (Forestry), B.Sc. (Marketing), and B.H.Sc.
Master’s Courses: Undoubtedly, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad offers PG courses across various disciplines namely agriculture statistics, seed science, agronomy, plants Psychology, plant biochemistry, and others. However, the most popular courses are M.Sc. in Agribusiness, M.Sc. in Agriculture, M.Sc. in Home Science, and M.Sc. in Forestry.

Undoubtedly, the University of Agricultural Sciences was established to fulfil the educational needs of the youth of the Dharwad District. As a result, the State Government of Karnataka laid the foundation stone of UAS on 1st October 1986. As a matter of fact, the University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad was established via Section 3 of Karnataka Act Number 22 of 1963.
In addition to this, the area surrounding the campus has a wide diversity of soils, climate, and topography. For this reason, Karnataka Agricultural University conducts full-fledged research at the campus. In addition to this, the territorial jurisdiction of UAS Dharwad extends to Gadag, Uttar Kanada, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Hanumanmatti, and Raichur. On the whole, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad history is about opening the doors of research programs in the field of agriculture for the local youth.
The University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad is spread of a wide landscape of 1339 acres along with the world-class state of the art infrastructure. In addition to this, UAS, Dharwad campus is situated on the Dharwad-Belgaum road, that is, PB-4. Moreover, the campus has wide spaces for conducting research and experiments.

UAS, Dharwad hostel has all the basic hostel amenities including the computer room, TV halls, reading rooms, sports facility, bathrooms, toilets, water closets, and furniture. In addition to this, the hostel has a parking facility for both the students as well as the faculty.
The library at UAS Dharwad is a modern library with high tech infrastructure. As a matter of fact, Karnataka Agricultural University has 4 teaching campus libraries at locations namely, Dharwad, Vijaypura, Hanumanmatti and Sirsi. In addition to this, there are few satellite/micro libraries spread across the various regional centers. Moreover, the library is the nerve center for all technical activities of the campus. Furthermore, the library has a rich collection of scientific literature for the students as well as the faculty.
The University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad has a highly specialized research-based Independent Seed Unit. As a matter of fact, the seed Unit was established in 1996 and the administrative head is called ‘Special Seed Officer’. Moreover, the main function of the Seed Unit is to maintain breeding and production of the nucleus, breeder, foundation and certify seeds of different crops. In addition to this, the seed bank also undertakes research activities related to seed products.

Each course has distinct selection criteria at UAS. As a matter of fact, the candidate can secure a seat to all the UG courses except B.Tech via direct merit/admission based mode. On the contrary, each candidate must appear for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET). Moreover, the students must appear for the entrance exam for enrolling admission in PG and PhD courses.
The University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad enrolls students for a B.Tech course via entrance based mode. In other words, the candidate must successfully secure the desired cut off marks in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test to take admission in the B.Tech course.
