Dharmsinh Desai University came into effect in 1968 as a state university. It was also recognized as an institute of higher learning in the fields of Engineering & Technology. It achieved its autonomy under Gujarat University in 1991. Besides, it was declared a deemed university in 2000. In 2005 the university was renamed Dharmsinh Desai University at the time of its full independence. Dharmsinh Desai University launched a bachelor’s degree course in Dental Surgery in 2005. In 2006 the faculty of pharmacy was developed. In 2012 the university managed to get consent to bring Nanotechnology courses. It is the first university in Gujarat that somehow managed to do so. The organization introduced a new Medical College from 2019 onwards.
