Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University is established by the Government of the NCT of Delhi through an Act of the Delhi Legislature. Therefore, formerly Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University was known as Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi and Ambedkar University Delhi. Moreover, with the establishment in 2007, the University began functioning in August 2008. Hence, the short form of the university’s name is AUD.

Therefore, the main focus of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University is on undergraduate and postgraduate studies and on research in Commerce, Humanities, and the Social Sciences. Earlier, it got funds from the State Government of the NCT of Delhi. But, nowadays the university is eligible to receive Central Government Assistance. Therefore, a hallmark of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University has been the development of human resources to meet the requirements of society.
University Campus
Spread over the vast area, the university has a campus of urban nature. Therefore, there are three (3) campuses of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University. First at Kashmere Gate in Old Delhi, second at Karampura in West Delhi, and last at Lodhi Road in South Delhi. Therefore, the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University campuses have infrastructures like administrative Block, Central Library, Computer Centre, Hostels, University Health Center, University Guest House, Canteen, Teaching and Research buildings, and many more.

- The Kashmere Gate campus of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University is housed in the erstwhile Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University campus, along with Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women. The historical campus originally built for Delhi College of Engineering also houses the 300-year-old Dara Shikoh library. The location of the campus is close to the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Old Delhi Railway Station, St. James’ Church, Delhi and Red Fort, and of course Kashmere Gate. Moreover, It is accessible by the red, yellow, and violet line of Delhi Metro with a station of Kashmere Gate.
- The School of Education Studies of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University shifted to a new campus located in Lodhi Road in September 2017. Moreover, it is accessible through two metro stations namely, Jor Bagh Metro Station of Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro Station of Delhi Metro’s Violet Line.
- The old campus of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College of the University of Delhi in the Karampura area of West Delhi is given to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University,
Future Campuses
The University is developing two new campuses in Rohini Sector 3 and in Dheerpur. These campuses will be ready by 2020. Moreover, the 110-acre Dheerpur campus will include a 60-acre biodiversity park to conserve the wetlands.
Courses at the Ambedkar University
The University brings numerous courses for its students across Commerce, Humanities, and Social Sciences disciplines. Therefore, It likewise provides courses in bachelors, master’s, and Ph.D. University also offers multiple M.Phils. as well. However, read below to know about courses at university.
Bachelors: The University is famous for its bachelor courses. Therefore, its undergraduate course offers a wide array of subjects in Commerce, Humanities and the Social Sciences disciplines like History, Sociology, Psychology and many more. Moreover, it provides courses which are Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.). However, these courses have a duration of three (3) years.
Masters: As a matter of fact, Masters’s courses at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University are also recognizable for their comprehensive level of education. Therefore, the university offers master’s courses in various disciplines as well. Hence, it provides courses namely, Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.). However, these courses have a duration of two (2) years.
M.Phil./Ph.D.: Lastly, the University provides the highest level of education to scholars from M.Phil. & Ph.D. programs. Moreover, the University also offers financial assistance to scholars during their research tenure. Therefore, the university offers multiple Ph.D. and M.Phil. programs in various disciplines.
