Birla Institute of Technology – Established in 1955

The Birla Institute of Technology was founded by eminent philanthropist and industrialist, Late Shri BM Birla. At first, it was started with the department of Mechanical Engineering. Later on, different departments were introduced gradually. BIT, Mesra is the first technical institution particularly, to establish a Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry. Apart from that, it also offers PG programs in association with the Indian Space Research Organization. Moreover, in 1972, the University received autonomous status.

Accordingly, the Birla Institute of Technology offers many programs under UG, PG, and Ph.D. curriculum. Under the UG programs, it offers courses like B. Birla Institute of Technology or BIT, Mesra is the first institute in India that established a Department of Space Engineering & Rocketry. The university has also partnered with the Indian Space Research Organization to provide PG Programs. One of the appreciable factors of BIT, Mesra indeed, is that all of its students have to compulsorily reside in the hostel provided by the university.
