If we look back at our past, Indian cultural land has always been a place where guests are held highly. You can see this easily from the common saying ” Atithi Devo Bhava.”In the service sector, Hospitality is an industry that is part of the service sector. It includes hotels, theme parks, food and drink services, event planning and travel, etc. And for the management, it is clear by its very meaning. In the fast moving times in which we live in this World today, this sector is one of the trades which is on rising. Due to the increase in income, time, and quality of life. As a result, there are more tourists in a place at a time than in older times.
So, MHM is a great option to look at if you like meeting people, as you get a chance to see new people from different cultures every day.
Hospitality management (MHM) is a great career choice if you like creative leadership. This is because, on the one hand, this job requires you to solve problems. On the other hand, you have to creatively develop your workplace so that it never lacking behind.
Masters of Hospitality Management (MHM) is a 2 years PG course for students who are looking for a career in the Hospitality sector. MHM trains you to become an active player in the field by offering some unique opportunities to learn new things. MHM also trains you to advance your career in various job roles that you can undertake as MHM. Note that there are differences between MHM another similar course Masters in Hotel management. You can get confused between MHM and Hotel Management if you are new to this. To help you in choosing between MHM and Hotel management, let us see some detailed comparisons.
For MHM, you can say in short that the MHM course is all about people. As an MHM graduate, you are not limited to only hotels, but you can be working anywhere from the tourism industry, bars, and pubs to Theme parks and event plannings. As a student of MHM, you have more choices compared to the student of Hot. Mgmt. This is because MHM is a broader field than Hot. Mgmt., which itself falls under MHM. In fact, MNCs also prefer employees with hospitality management (MHM). This is because, in MHM, you are also trained for coordinating guest arrivals, meetings, dining, etc. Let us compare Hot. Mgmt. And MHM below,

Colleges | Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs), Panjab University, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Symbiosis International University, Amity Business School | SUN International Institute for Tourism and Management, Visakhapatnam Indian Institutes of Hotel Management(IHM), Amity University, |
Hotel Mgmt. | Hospitality Management (MHM) |
Hot. Mgmt. focuses only on the hotel industry | MHM focuses on different industries like food and drink, travel, event planning, etc. |
Hot. Mgmt. Jobs offers only in the hotel sector like hotel manager, housekeeping, etc | MHM job offers in many sectors like casino manager, resort manager, etc. |
Hot. Mgmt. is about Operations management | MHM is about People management |
Hot. Mgmt. salaries are high only after you gain many years of experience | MHM salaries at entry level jobs are also very good. |
Now, we take a detailed look at these differences,
As can be seen from the tables above, unlike MHM, Hot. Mgmt. is concerned with aspects of managing a hotel or lodges such as a B&B, resort, etc. Because India is an important tourism place, this makes it a perfect place for a large number of hotels and hotel chains. So, in Hot. Mgmt. You will be taught to manage day-to-day operations in those. Whereas MHM is a broader field, which includes any sector dealing with people management. For example, nightclubs, conferences, events, sales, business development, and also hotels. So here MHM takes the lead
If you do Hot. Mgmt. You can only work in the hotel industry. This is in contrast to MHM, where the scope is broader. Although, there still are many jobs with hotel chains, resorts, and restaurants. Whereas if you do MHM, you will have far greater job choices. This is because, when you do MHM, you are not be limited to working in the hotel industry alone, but you can also use those y skills in fields such as operations, marketing, HR, finance, and in various other job roles.
Hot. Mgmt. is mainly focused on operations subjects. As a Hotel manager, your job mostly is to make sure that all the departments in the hotel are working smoothly. With a Hot. Mgmt. Degree, you have training in managing all these departments. Whereas with an MHM degree, you learn about managing people. Your job as MHM is to ensure that the guests have a comfortable and satisfying experience at the event, venue, hotel, etc., that is under you. As a great MHM employee, it is your duty to take the experience of the client to the next level. In this case, MHM takes the lead.
The main duty is Hot. Mgmt. is to make sure that the guests have a pleasant and enjoyable stay. So, your job includes taking care of guests from the minute they check in to the minute they check out. Department like the front desk, travel desk, housekeeping, room service, guest service, etc., are all on the shoulders of a hotel manager. In a similar way, MHM also includes taking care of guests, but in a different way. For example, hospitality managers in corporations take care of meeting and greeting the guests and making sure that they get everything they need for an unforgettable visit. Both MHM and M. Hot. Mgmt. have serious responsibilities.
As we know, India is one of the top tourist places in the World, so there are a large number of tourists every year. This makes the hotel sector flourish. This means that it depends heavily on the tourism sector. Now, because hospitality management is about people, it is mostly independent of any sector. A number of IT companies, MNCs employ MHM professionals to events and meetings. So, Hot. Mgmt. Only manages the operations of a hotel or lodge. On the other hand, MHM includes and extends beyond these sectors. As a result of all this, MHM is a highly sought-after degree since it offers job options in a variety of sectors. So MHM clearly keeps ahead in this case.
MHM is a 2 years long PG course designed to train you to become a professional in the hospitality sector. In MHM, you get to learn interpersonal skills, communication skills, customer service, and you also develop a business sense in this process. So, now we take a look at how to get admission in the MHM program of the various institutes of India, including various IHMs. For admission to MHM and many other courses at prestigious IHMs, you need to appear in the NCHMCT JEE exam.
