Here, the Gulbarga’s history goes back to the 6th century. There, the Rashtrakutas took control of the region, but within a short amount of time the Chalukyas reclaimed their territory and dominated for more than 200 years. Then, up till the 12th Century was the Kalyani Kalachuri who replaced them. So, at around the end of the 12th century, Dwarasamadra’sYadavas of Devagiri and Kalachuri broke Kalyani’s authority. Therefore, the Kakatiya Warangal Kings were prominent in around the same period, and the present-day districts of Gulbarga and Raichur were part of their dominion. Also, in 1323 AD Kakatiya’s strength was overcome, and Delhi sultanate was taken over thru the entire Dekcan, including the Gulbarga area.
In 1347 Ala-ud-Din Bahman Shah who chose Gulbarga (Hasanabad), the capital, set up the Bahmani Sultanate in a mutiny by the officers appointed from Delhi. Next, the current district of Gulbarga/Gulbarga was under Bidar in part and under Bijapur in part. Now, in 1687 Golconda finally died to Aurangzeb, the last of those sultanates.
Thereafter, in the 17th century Gulbarga passed under the Mughal empire with the invasion of the Deccan by Aurangzeb. Due to whichthe decline of Mughal Empire brought to bear Nizamul-Mulk and, in the early part of the eighteenth century, Asaf Jah I, one of the generals of Aurangzeb, into the Hyderabad Kingdom, which also had a big part of the Gulbarga area. So, the Hyderabad State became part of the Indian Union in 1948 and Gulbarga District became part of the new Mysore State in the year 1956 with the exception of two talukas ceded to Andhra Pradesh.
The whole district is located on the Deccan Plateau and is between 300 and 750 m above the MSL. At the same time, the district is crossed by two main rivers Krishna and Bhima. So, the main type of dirt is black. Here, the area features multiple tanks that irrigate the river and the ground. Also, the Upper Krishna Project in Jowar district is a big irrigation undertaking. Groundnuts, rice and pulses are the major plants. In Karnataka, Gulbarga is the top tournament pea producer. Consequently, the Gulbarga is an industrial retrograde area, but has indications that the cement, textile, leather and chemical sectors are growing. Gulbarga has a medical and engineering university.Aland Taluk of Gulbarga is set at the Kadaganchi Central University of Karnataka (CuK). The city has 64 square kilometres in geographical area.
