National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) is the prestigious institute of fashion education in India established in 1986. NIFT welcomes students who want to make fashion a profession in their life. Overall, NIFT has a total number of 17 campuses in India. The National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) Head office is NIFT Delhi. The Institute aims at providing various courses both at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. However, not limited to it, only the institute also grants admission to candidates at a Ph.D. level.

NIFT is a national-level examination. NIFT Basic Information

The National Institute of Fashion Technology is responsible for conducting the NIFT examination. In addition, NIFT is accountable for releasing all the updates regarding the application form till the end of the admission process, i.e., counseling. NIFT currently has 17 centers running in the country. The oldest NIFT center in India is NIFT, Delhi, which started functioning in the year 1986. If we talk about the NIFT examination number of attempts then, NIFT conducts its entrance examination every year i.,e in the annual mode. Therefore, candidates get only a single chance for admission to a different course once a year.

NIFT conducts examinations in offline mode for admitting candidates into different courses across 17 NIFT colleges all over India. The conducting body of the examination conducts examinations only in English and Hindi. A candidate can’t take exams in any other language.

Above all, the basic requirements or steps while applying for admission are to check the minimum eligibility criteria. Then, the candidate would proceed with the application by paying the application fee.

  • Candidates appearing in their final examination are also eligible to apply for the application form.
  • Candidates will be given a choice for one and only one city for choosing the entrance exam center.

  • A total of 15% of total seats is reserved for admission of Foreign Nationals (whether residing in India or abroad) and Non-Resident Indians holding an Indian passport.

Additionally, NIFT itself is responsible for the release of all the information related to the NIFT exam. Therefore, this year, NIFT, just like the year, will release the date on its official website with the announcement notification and release the complete information brochure for the upcoming batch. Hence, as of now, the dates are still yet to release. Moreover, candidates can regularly check the official website in February as the exam was held in 06 Feb, 2022. In addition to the above information, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is responsible for releasing its notification for the upcoming year on its official website. Also, the NIFT Notification aims to give complete insight into the exam like the significant dates, application form date, examination date, and result-related information. NIFT Eligibility Criteria

Above all, before filling out the application form, candidates must check the eligibility criteria before filling the NIFT application form. Therefore, candidates who fail to meet the minimum requirement given below will not be able to go for the next rounds, as the application will be marked as trash.

For B.Des, B.FTech

Age Limit

  • The applicant’s maximum age should be 24 years as of August 1, 202.1

Educational Qualifications For B.Des

Applicants must have passed

  • Examination of Class 12 from CBSE or any other recognized board. or
  • National Open School with minimum five subjects Senior Secondary School Examination or
  • Diploma of 3 or 4 years OR
  • Examination identified as equal to 10+2. OR


Educational Qualifications For B.FTech

  • Qualified Class 12 with main subjects as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. or
  • Diploma in Engineering of 3 – 4 years or
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with PCM ( Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics). Background.
  • Exam recognized as equal to 10+2 with a combination of subjects, i.e., Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination at the advanced (A) level with a combination of subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB).


For M.Des, M.F.M and M.FTech

Age Limit:

  • No age limit.

For M.Des, MFM

  • Undergraduate in any discipline 0r
  • Undergraduate Diploma of min 3 yrs from NIFT or NID.

For MFtech:

  • B.FTech. from any o the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campuses or
  • B.E / B.Tech. from any recognized Institute


NIFT 2022 Reservation Criteria

The conducting body has given relaxation for the candidates belonging to the below category. Thus, following reservation criteria for the benefit of these categories. However, applicants applying for the same need to prove their category by showing documents at the time of counseling.

NIFT Registration Process

The application form for NIFT releases by none other than the conducting body NIFT itself.  Its releases are an application form in the online mode only. Candidates must remember that there’s no option for an offline application form.  Therefore, candidates must first register and enter the necessary details as asked in the Application Form to apply online. After filling in all the details correctly, the candidate must upload the scanned image of their passport size photograph and signature per the specification and format mentioned in the brochure released by the NIFT. At the final stage of the application form, the candidate is asked to pay the application fee, submit the form and take its printout. Moreover, without paying the application form, the form can’t be considered submitted. Not only this candidate, before filing the state, must check the criteria of filling the form.


NIFT Application Fee

The application form is complete only after the payment of the application fee, which is as follows as per last year –

NIFT Ph.D. Application Form

The application Form releases online. In addition, candidates can apply online by visiting the NIFT official website:

Application Fees:

  • General/OBC (Non-Creamy) Category: Rs. 2300/-
  • SC/ST/PWD Category: Rs. 1300/-

Candidates filing online application form are required to take the printout of it, their signature sends it along with self-attested copies of testimonials/certificates in support of DOB, Category certificate, Educational and  Professional qualification, Experience, etc. to DD  NIFT – Head Office, Hauz Khas, New Delhi-110 016.


Steps of Filling Application Form

  • Initially, applicants need to click on the link of Admission on
  • Next, the applicants need to register themselves with their basic information like the candidate’s name, category of the candidate, DOB, and then enter on submit button.
  • By clicking on the submit button, the confirmation email is sent to the candidate’s email id. Now, the candidate can log in with the registration and date of birth.


Next, a candidate has to enter the login credentials as used above for registration. On doing so, the candidate dashboard will get open. Now, candidates check out the steps and status of the application form.

  • After this, an applicant can fill out the NIFT application form by entering details like qualification, address, and contact details.
  • Thereafter, the applicants have to upload all the documents with specific instructions like image size, image format, etc.
  • Finals step is to pay the application form fee online, as without it, the form is considered not submitted.
  • At last, the applicant must not forget to take out the printout of the filled application form as required at any stage of the admission process.

In this test candidate’s illustration level and color skills are checked. This is a subjective type of question test.

NIFT Exam Pattern

Moreover, to secure a good score in the examination, it’s important to know the exam pattern to help you prepare accordingly. Therefore, candidates must read the exam pattern thoroughly from below and make strategies thus.   Check the Exam pattern below.

For B.Des and M.Des:

Examination Mode: The exam takes place in offline mode, i.e., the pen and paper mode.

Question Type: Questions are asked in the format of objective type, i.e., MCQ type questions.

Exam Duration: For undergraduate courses duration of the exam is 120 minutes.

NIFT Admit Card

Above all, NIFT releases its admit card on its official website, However, it releases its admit card only in the online mode. Hence, candidates need to log in with the application number, DOB, and password to download it.  National Institue of Fashion Technology releases its admit card separately for the CAT ( Creative Ability Test) and GAT ( General Ability Test). The admit card holds essential information like the name of the candidate, exam center name and address, timings for the exam.

The candidate must go to the examination center, and that admit card as no candidate can appear for the examination without it.  In addition, candidates have to adhere to some guidelines written on the admit card to avoid discrepancies at the examination time. Moreover, the candidate should also check the details written on the admit card as there might be a case of misspelling words or misprinting information. So, to avoid it at the examination time candidate must check all the details and, in case of any error, contact the exam conducting authority at the exact moment only.

As the Creative Ability Test is only conducted for the Design students. Hence, the CAT admit card is provided to the B.Design and M.Design candidates only.

Also, The GAT i.e., General Ability Test, is issued to all the applicants appearing in the NIFT examination.

NIFT Result

NIFT releases its result for the entrance exam online. Hence, to download the result the candidate has to enter the login credentials for downloading the result. Based on the candidate’s score in the entrance exam, they are shortlisted to appear for the admission process as per their respective course. Therefore, candidates need to log in using an email id and date of birth to check the result online. Those candidates who will qualify for the CAT and GAT examination as per the cut off are then called for the next round of admission, which is as follows:

  • Group Discussion / Personal Interview for M.Des, M.F. Tech, and MFM.
  • B.F. Tech admission based on GAT score.
  • Situation Test for B.Des.

Selection Procedure

National Institute of Fashion Technology picks candidates based on the following stages, which are written below.

1) Initial step of admission in the NIFT is the written test which can be either a creative ability test (CAT) or a general ability test (GAT).

  • GAT examination is for conducted those candidates who have applied for B.F.Tech program. For B.F.Tech candidates, written test is the final selection criteria in the admission process.
  • GAT examination is also for M.F.Tech and MFM candidates.
  • GAT and CAT are for B.Desh and M.Desh candidates.


2) Qualified Candidates of the first stage are further called for the next rounds based on their score in the written test.

3) B.Des candidates are notified for the situation test after they qualify for the written test.

4) M.F.Tech, M.Desh, and MFM candidates are invited for group discussion and personal interviews.
