Change in NATA 2021 because of COVID (Last year)

COVID-19 forced CoA to split NATA 2021 into three sessions. Therefore, the first phase of the exam was held on April 10^th. The second phase was held on July 11th. Some candidates attended more than one session. However, only the best of the three determines final B.Arch. admissions. Moreover, there will be no central admissions counselling conducted by the CoA. Successful candidates will apply for direct admission to a participating college.

About NATA Conducting Body

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) was established in 2006. The Council of Architecture (CoA) regulates NATA. Moreover, the CoA functions according to certain provisions. The CoA was established under (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983. The regulations were published in the Indian Gazette.

The architecture field is different from general engineering subjects. Therefore, it is crucial to have a separate aptitude exam for architecture admission. There is a separate test for engineering, pharmacy, medicine, and other areas. This entrance exam establishes a single exam scheme for architectural aptitude tests. Besides, NATA allows students from India to apply for admission in architecture courses. This particular exam is also called the NATA entrance exam for architecture enthusiasts. 

Applicants can avail many institutes without the hustle of several aptitude exams. Thus, NATA is the eligibility criteria for admission to a five-year (B.Arch.) degree program. The CoA, as well as the Central Government, approves these criteria. Therefore, the exam body should strictly adhere to the mandatory rules. Candidates can be admitted to various government, government-aided, and unaided architectural schools and colleges based on their NATA results. NATA’s Basic Information

NATA assesses an applicant’s aptitude for the field of Architecture. Therefore, NATA evaluates applicants’ cognitive skills, visual perception, and aesthetic sensitivity. This year, NATA- 2022 is held thrice for admission in B.Arch. The changes are for the academic session 2022-2023 specifically. The applicants unable to take the initial test can sit in the second test.  However, applicant’s can register for the second test based on their score. Similarly, if a candidate cannot sit for the second round of tests, they can sit in the third test. These exams are held as computer-based exams, but the candidates have to go to the allotted centres and can only appear for an exam. So, these are offline exams. They are held on dates in June and July 2022.

The Council of Architecture (CoA) released the exam dates for NATA 2022. The exam is conducted in 3 phases. Candidates can appear in all the exams. However, the best score of all is deciding factor. Previously, COVID-19 had forced CoA to split the  NATA 2022 into three sessions. Therefore, the first phase of the exam was held on April 10^th2022. The second phase was held on July 11th 2022.

NATA Eligibility

Candidates should meet the required NATA eligibility criteria to sit in NATA 2022. CoA sets the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria markedly involve the below-mentioned factors-

Age 

The minimum age limit for NATA 2022 is 17 years. Therefore, candidates should be 17 years old on the last registration date. There is no maximum age limit for NATA at this time. However, there are no privileges of age relaxation, unlike other exams.

Education

The educational qualification for NATA 2022 is as follows-

• Candidates who passed 10 + 2 exams with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Similarly, the students with 10+3 diplomas in Mathematics are also eligible.
• Besides this, candidates enrolled in similar courses are also eligible. Such Candidates can apply for NATA 2022 provisionally.
• Successful candidates can go for a B. Arch degree. Various universities and institutes offer this course. However, this is possible only if candidates meet the eligibility criteria.
• However, a minimum of 50% gross marks is required for successful admission.
• The gross marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics should be 50%.
• Admission to the first year of the B. Arch. program is by invitation only.

However, the eligibility criteria for the academic year 2022-2023 have certain changes. The CoA revises the rules. The revision is done as per Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations, 2020.  The Central Government approved the criteria accordingly.

NATA Eligibility Criteria

According to the Regulations of 2020, the eligibility criteria for NATA is as follows:

• Candidates are not allowed to be admitted to architecture programs unless they pass the 10+2 scheme exams. Therefore, candidates must pass the exams with a minimum of 50% gross marks. Moreover, the gross marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics should be 50%. Besides, 10+3 diploma candidates should also have 50% gross marks.
• Besides this, no straight lateral admission is permitted. Therefore at any stage of the B.Arch. In the program, direct admission is prohibited.
• Qualifying in NATA-2022 does not ensure admission to any Architecture school. Thus, the candidate should meet all of the necessary eligibility criteria. Various rules are stipulated by the competent bodies accordingly.
• List of Qualifying Exams- NATA is a single exam for admission in B. Arch. Program. However, various institutes take separate exams for the B. Arch program.

NATA Registration: Process & more

The application is available ONLINE at the NATA official website. Click the ONLINE APPLICATION NATA– 2022 link available on the portal. Check the application form afterwards. The fields are interactive, as well as the form.

The important fields are divided into sub-sections. The fields marked with an asterisk (*) must be filled in. Mandatory information fields are marked as well. Provide the required information; else, the application will be rejected.

The NATA registration process is divided into three steps:

Firstly, the PERSONAL DETAILS section. Secondly, documents are uploaded. Lastly, the fee payment section.

Applicants should follow the below-mentioned NATA registration guidelines to register for NATA 2022 successfully-

Step 1: Registration – This is the first step of the NATA 2022 application form. Therefore, first, register yourself by providing the required information. The information generally includes –

• Applicant’s name
• Valid mobile number
• Date of birth
• Valid email address

By the time of completion of step 1, a username and password are generated. These credentials are required for future login.

Step 2: Fill out the application form by NATA log in – Candidates had to log in with their username and password.  Thereafter, fill out all of the required information. The information includes personal as well as academic details. In addition to this, a selection of exam centres is required. Candidates have three choices in order of preference.

Step 3: Upload Scanned Images of Documents – Upload scanned images of your photograph, signature, and community certificate. Upload the documents in the format specified by the bodies (if applicable).

Step 4: Application Number Generation – Submit the application form only when documents are uploaded.  An 8-digit application number is generated after submitting the NATA 2022 application.

Step 5: Pay the Application Fee – The application fee is paid online (through credit/debit card or net banking).

Step 6: Take a printout of the Confirmation page. – Lastly, The application confirmation page appears. Upon completion of all of the preceding procedures, confirmation is required. Take a printout of this confirmation page for further use.

NATA Correction

Before applying, candidates should ensure that all details are correct.  Check the preview of the application at last. However, Candidates will only have one chance to amend their personal information.

Filling out an online form takes time. Applicants should be cautious while filling out the online application. Applicants should provide authentic information to ensure the successful completion of the process.

In any case, the candidates must fill in only the correct and authentic information. Any discrepancy will not be tolerated and can potentially lead to disqualification of the candidature.

NATA Syllabus 2022

NATA exam syllabus is divided into two parts mainly. Firstly, the Mathematic and general aptitude test. Secondly, the drawing test takes place.

For the first part-

The exam syllabus generally contains basic concepts in mathematics, physics, and geometry concepts. In addition to this, language and interpretation ability is tested. Other Important topics of the NATA syllabus 2022 are as follows-

NATA Exam Pattern 2022

1. Exam Mode: The exam is held in a computer-based mode at offline centres across the country.
2. Time Duration: 180 minutes is given to solve the question paper.
3. The question paper has three sections, i.e. Mathematics, Drawing & General Aptitude.
4. Section-wise Time Duration: Candidates are given 60 minutes to attempt questions of Part-A (aptitude section). A time duration of  120 minutes is there to attempt Part B. More time is given to Part B because it has a drawing section.
5. Total Number of Questions: A total of 60 questions are asked in the test. The question paper is 200 marks.
6. Question Type: The question of Mathematics & GA is multiple-choice.

NATA Admit Card 2022

The exam conducting board would publish the NATA admit card on its official website. NATA Admit card is available a few days before the test dates. However, Candidates will only be allowed to avail of their admission cards online. All applicants must have their NATA hall ticket with them. Applicants do not have permission to enter the exam hall without admit card. One can download the admit card from NATA ‘s official site.  Applicants must have a valid registration ID firstly, and secondly, a password. NATA hall ticket 2022 for Phase 1 and 2 will be released soon.

NATA Result

NATA releases the NATA  result after completion of the testing process. Moreover, CoA will release the NATA 2022 result for Phase 3. The result is available on the official website. The result was released on September 8. Therefore, Applicants can download the scorecard now. Print it out later as it is important for the admission process.

Major Key points regarding the NATA 2022 exam result-

The bodies disclose the response sheets before the final result.

However, they upload the response sheet only for Part A.

The body has reduced the qualifying score of NATA 2022 from 75 to 70.

The bodies decide the qualifying marks based on the rules given below:

Score At least 25% in MCQ part (Part A) – 30 out of 120. In addition to this, a minimum of 25% marks in Drawing port (Part B). The minimum mark for Part B is 20 out of 80

Candidates can download the result by using a login ID and Password. Therefore, it is crucial to keep your User ID and Password memorised.

Successful candidates can appear in counselling sessions. The CoA officials do not hold a NATA 2022 joint counselling session. Therefore, candidates should apply to each of the participating institutes separately. The admissions are granted according to the score. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifying cut off in the first place. The participating institutes consider only eligible candidates for admission.

Q1. What is the NATA exam for?

Ans. Every person with an architectural profession must abide by the minimum qualifications as prescribed by CoA. CoA has made it mandatory to qualify for NATA in order to become an architect. However, NATA does not guarantee admission to architectural institutions.

Q2.Who is eligible to compete in NATA 2022?

Ans. Candidates who have passed their 10+2 test.  However, PCM should be a part of the 10+2 syllabus. In addition to this, 10+3 students are eligible as well. Mathematics as a topic of study for diploma students is essential.

Candidates enrolled in a 10+2 or a 10+3 can apply for NATA-2022. However, enrolled candidates can apply provisionally only.

CoA sets these regulations, and the Central Government revise them. “Without a 10+2 qualification certificate, CoA does not allow a candidate for admission to any architecture course. As well as at least 50% gross marks in the 10+2 level exam. 50% gross marks are mandatory for 10+3 Diploma students.” according to Regulations, 2020.

Q4. If passing NATA 2022 guarantees entrance to a B Arch degree program?

Ans. Qualifying in NATA 2022 does not provide a right or assurance of admission to a B. Arch. Program. The candidate should meet all of the statutory needs.  Various competent admission bodies check the eligibility accordingly.  Not only the institutes but the CoA also mandates eligibility standards.

Ans. A candidate can only take two tests at a time. The best of the two scores will be taken into consideration. A candidate needs to be well prepared to clear the exam as the competition is fierce and one has to penetrate their way out to succeed in this field.

Q6. Is NATA for IIT?

Ans. No, NATA is not for IIT. The NATA full form is the National Aptitude Test in Architecture. This is the architecture entrance exam for students who want to study architecture. IIT focuses on a completely different domain of study, mainly in the field of science but not architecture.

Ans. No, NATA 2022 will be held in offline mode across various centres in the country.
