Top MBA Entrance Exams

As we told you, for your convenience, we have divided MBA entrance exams into three levels. It will give you a better understanding of these exams. So, the three categories are:

  • National Level: Under this, we will discuss the three most popular entrance tests. It includes CAT, MAT, and CMAT.
  • State Level: In the state-level MBA Exams, we at Chegg will provide you with details about four exams. It includes exams like KMAT, MAH-CET, TANCET, and TSICET
  • College/ University Level: In our last level, we will briefly discuss four exams. These are IIFT, IRMASAT, SNAP, and XAT

Therefore, we will provide you with information about the top 11 MBA Entrance Exams in India. So, buckle up! We are about to start. 

 

National Level 

As we told you that, we will discuss three exams for MBA entrance. All these are national-level exams. At this level, candidates across the country are eligible to appear in this exam. Moreover, here we will be discussing only three exams. These are CAT, MAT, and CMAT. So, let us start with the first one:

 

1) CAT:

Popularly, known as Common Admission Test is one of the most popular MBA Entrance Exam in India. Moreover, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) is its conducting body. Moreover, around 20 IIM’s use CAT scores to provide admission to candidates across the country. Every year more than two lakh candidates appear in this exam. Also, more than 1000 management institutes use CAT scores to find eligible candidates for their institutes. If we talk about the exam pattern of CAT, we want to tell you that you have to solve 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes. Furthermore, the CAT exam was introduced in India in the 1950s. However, it became an online entrance exam in 2009. 

Besides, every year IIM conducts this exam in two sessions. However, due to COVID-19, last year, the IIM authorities conducted this exam in three sessions. Also, the IIM changed the exam duration from 180 minutes to 120 minutes. Moreover, the IIM authorities arrange more than 400 exam centers for the convenience of candidates.

Now we are moving towards the paper. Candidates, you should know that the CAT exam paper consists of three sections. Also, the weightage of the questions is equal in all three exam sections. Moreover, the three sections include questions from:

  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
  • Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
  • Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC)

 

2) MAT:

Aspirants! we will now tell you about another national exam for the MBA entrance exam. It is popular with the name MAT but stands for Management Aptitude Test. Moreover, this exam is similar to the CAT exam. However, there are some differences. The MAT score is acceptable by many universities. But only a count of around 600 is there. Unlike CAT, MAT is not much popular. Still, it takes its place in the top 11 MBA entrance exams. Also, the conducting bodies of CAT and MAT are different. The All India Management Association (AIMA) is responsible for all acts in the MAT exam. It is the conducting body of MAT. Moreover, the frequency of the MAT exam is more than that of CAT. AIMA conducts this exam four times a year. Also, there are three modes of exam which students can take according to their choices. The modes are:

  • Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Internet-Based Test (IBT)
  • Paper-Based Test (PBT)

Furthermore, the MAT exam includes 200 questions with an exam duration of 150 minutes. Also, some of the exam topics are Data Analysis and Sufficiency; Indian and Global Environment; Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Language Comprehension; and Mathematical Skills. 

 

3) CMAT:

Aspirants! Here we are now, talking about the second-largest MBA entrance exam of India. It is popular with the name CMAT. However, it stands for Common Management Admission Test. Moreover, National Testing Agency (NTA), conducts this exam every year. Moreover, candidates opt for this option only after appearing for the CAT exam. Besides, NTA conducted the first CMAT exam in 2012.

Furthermore, there are more than 1000 institutes where the CMAT score is valid. Also, NTA conducts this exam every year in January. Moreover, it is a Computer-based test with a duration of 180 minutes. Further, this exam consists of four sections. These include:

  • General Awareness
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Language Comprehension
  • Quantitative Technique

 

State-Level MBA Entrance Exams

Aspirants! we are now at the state-level MBA entrance exams in India. You must be aware that in these exams, only candidates from that particular state can appear in that exam. We can say that only those candidates are eligible for such exams. No candidate from any other state can apply. To make you all understand this thing more thoroughly we will discuss four exams of state-level. So, let’s start with the first one.

 

1) KMAT

KMAT is a state-level exam. Aspirants! if you are from the state of Karnataka, this exam is for you. KMAT stands for Karnataka Management Aptitude Test and Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association (KPPGCA) is its conducting authority. Moreover, we at Chegg must tell you that, after appearing in the KMAT exam, you can get admission only to the colleges in Karnataka. Also, the frequency of the exam is three times a year. Furthermore, more than 169 colleges use the KMAT score to select candidates for their colleges.

Now, moving forward with the paper pattern. The paper pattern of KMAT is similar to that of other MBA entrance exams. It consists of 120 questions which you have to complete in 120 minutes. Moreover, the KMAT paper consists of three sections which are

  • Basic Aptitude
  • Language Comprehension
  • Mathematical Skills

 

2) MAH-CET

Aspirants! we are taking MAH-CAT as the second example of a state-level exam. Moreover, the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra, is the conducting body of the MAH-CET exam. We must tell you that MAH-CET stands for Maharashtra Common Entrance Test.

Furthermore, as we already told you that the pattern of all MBA entrance exams is similar. Therefore, there is not much difference in the MAH-CET exam from any other exam. Also, the frequency of this exam is once a year in March. Moreover, the exam is for 150 minutes in which you have to answer 200 questions.

 

3) TAN-CET

It is another state-level exam. Telangana State Integrated Common Entrance Test was held first time in 2015. Moreover, the paper consists of three sections which include:

  • Analytical Ability
  • Communication Ability
  • Mathematical Ability

 

4) TSI-CET

The last one here in state-level exams is TSI-CET. It stands for Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test. Moreover, Anna University conducts this exam on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government. Besides, the duration of this exam is two hours in which you have to attempt 100 questions. Furthermore, the questions are from these sections:
