(Telangana State Education Common Entrance Test)

The different state government also takes part in the B.Ed. Admissions. They ensure Admissions into the State government-affiliated institutes. The top state entrance is provided by Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. In some states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala, there are no entrance tests for B.Ed. The candidates are selected on a merit basis. The TNTEU (Tamil Nadu Teachers Educational University) is a body that conducts the counseling process (no written test) for B.Ed. Admissions.



The National Test Agency conducts the CUCET Exam (Central University Common Eligibility Test). Passing this test ensures admission into any 12 of the national Universities affiliated with CUCET. Thus, this entrance test is also for the B.Ed. Admissions into any of the institutes that accept the CUCET scores. Apart from that, CUCET is also for the other bachelor’s and master’s programs.


B.Ed. Entrance Exam preparations

As per the New Education Policy guidelines, most of the B.Ed. entrance tests are conducted by NTA. The National Testing Agency is one of the main testing authorities in the B.Ed. Admissions. The topics/subjects tested by them are as follows

  • General English and Local language

The difficulty level in these topics is very moderate. Thus, the above-mentioned syllabus remains constant for most of the B.Ed. exams. After, clearing the B.Ed. entrance, you can join the desired institute by verifying your certificates. Also, the fee per annum varies with the institute.

This includes Teacher’s eligibility tests (TETs) like CTET, UPTET, APTET, and TSTET. Further, if you can also proceed to college teachings by writing appropriate entrance exams. For placement as an Assistant Professor or Professor at the college level, you need to show up for National Eligibility Tests (NETs) like UGC NET and CSIR NET.

Eligibility criteria for B.Ed. Exams

Any graduate can apply for a B.Ed. entrance exam. Also, post-graduates can apply. Graduation/post-graduation is preferred from a recognized University. The minimum pass percentage varies with different institutes. For example, some institutes prefer candidates with a minimum of at least 55% whereas some prefer 50%. Also, the minimum age must be 19/ above.

Apart from these, the specific criteria vary with each institute or recruiting body. Moreover, candidates from categories like PwD (Person with Disability), SC/ST are given a relaxation of 5% in their overall scores.

Last but not the least, the candidates must get through the entrance test of that specific institute.


Pros and Cons

The most obvious con is the salary. You won’t earn much unless you are the most experienced one in the government sector. Moreover, you must clear exams like CTET/TET to earn well in teaching. Thus B.Ed. a degree alone will not provide the salary you want. Also, the promotions and recognitions are a little slow in this job. Teaching is always considered as a self-less job work its work nature.

One of the most advantageous things is that there is distance education for B.Ed. The B.Ed. degree through correspondence program is still considered valid. Thus, you can complete your B.Ed. degree alongside your mainstream graduation.

Also, as per the recent notifications, engineers can apply in the teaching sector. Though it seems welcoming, there is not much scope for them in the teaching sector. Moreover, it adds to the competition in the teaching sector.
