CBSE 2026: Big Exam Rule Changes Students Must Know!

written by : Sadhana

CBSE has issued new rules for Class 10 & 12 board exams from 2026. These changes affect attendance, subjects, and eligibility for students.

Board exams will now be based on a two-year study cycle. Class 10 covers Classes 9 & 10, while Class 12 covers Classes 11 & 12.

Two-Year Programme

Students must have at least 75% attendance to appear for Class 10 and 12 board exams. Low attendance may lead to exam ineligibility.

Attendance Rule

Tests and practical’s are mandatory. Students cannot skip internal assessments, as these marks are included in board eligibility.

Internal Assessments

Class 10 students can take up to two additional subjects. Class 12 students can take only one additional subject with proper facilities.

Extra Subjects

Students failing to meet attendance or assessment rules may be marked as “Essential Repeat” and won’t be allowed to sit for exams.

Repeat Cases

CBSE says these changes ensure continuous learning, discipline, and fairness, preventing last-minute pressure before board exams.
